I think Petterson as he is dynamite. Also Canadian Div should be a point getters delight. (I don’t know about Panthèrs div though)

I know I know obviously Pettersson was looking at basically a PPG season but Barkov already hit that mark and significantly higher.

Again I think the biggest factor here is that Barkov has 4 years on Pettersson, he is at his peak rn

Barkov hasn't come close to that 96 point mark in any other season though. He's been around a 75-80 point pace in all his other seasons since he broke out offensively, which is around what Pettersson has paced over his first two years. He was apparently playing through injury last year so maybe he'll get back to his '19 production, but currently it looks like an outlier in his career. Pettersson's underlying impact on GF% last year was greater as well. I would say the fact that Barkov is in his prime is actually in Pettersson's favour here, since it seems more likely that Pettersson will take a step forward in development and was already the better player last year. I also don't think the poll results are an accurate interpretation of the odds of who's likely to be better. Most people voting Pettersson would probably say there's not a huge gap.

Florida has no depth, so Barkov will probably play 22-23 minutes a game and score a bunch, but Pettersson will be more impactful when he's on the ice.

Both are a bit injury prone, so this is multifaceted coin toss.. :D
Also what is meant by "better season"? Points? Playoffs?

For points (if both healthy), I'd say Barkov. For 2-way game, I'd say Barkov. Which one has better chance of some actual team success, I'd say EP.

Pettersson. Barkov - the best playmaker on Florida is used as a net-presence on Panthers. WTF? Used correctly he would get a lot more points. I bet Barkov will leave Florida when UFA as the team never get better.

Pettersson missed one game last year...

Im not sure you can be labelled injury prone after missing 11 games in 1 season and then just 1 the next. Also the games he missed were due to dirty plays/freak accidents.

What do you mean by "better"? Strictly in terms of points?

If Bergeron gets 65 points and wins the Selke, while Kessel gets 90 and is -20: who had the better season?

Lmao can’t believe this is still a thing, Pettersson is so much better than Barkov in terms of two/way play it’s absurd.

This is why EP is overrated. He'll be a franchise center one day but he's not currently better than a 25 year old borderline top 10 C that's had a career high of 96 points, averaged 85 points over the last 3 years and finished 4th, 5th, and 11th in Selke voting over that 3 year period.

Barkov is what Nucks fans hope EP should become, he's a terrific young two-way center.

I’m on the Pettersson hype train- as good as Barkov is, I think Pettersson has a higher ceiling. And I think he gets there early- barkov has gotten better year over year over year, I say pettersson matches him/outdoes him starting this season.

He's already a franchise center and he's already better than Barkov. If you haven't realized it yet, you certainly will this year.

I think Barkov is a more complete player than EP at this point, but EP is definitely more electrifying. It's a close race.
