I think it's fair and accurate to call them a real group.

From the Rolling Stone list, I think the (great) Once soundtrack has to be linked to a real "group" too. And another comment on the list, Nick Rivers' best song is How Silly Can You Get? and should be #1.

Another personal favorite, I'm Nuthin by the fictional band 'Hey, That's My Bike'.

Kind of a gray area. Belzebubs are a ficitional blackened death band from a comic by JP Ahonen but it's pretty widely accepted that the music is created by melodeath band Insomnium. At very least, the vocalist is assuredly Insomium's Niilo Sevanen.
