Amazing Effort

Wow, thank your for the tremendous effort!

I'll explain to you a little bit about the reason of why I came up with this idea.
As many of you know, there is a computer game made by EA Sports called NHL 06. It's a game that has been made on an annual basis since 1992.
To be completely honest, there game sucks. There is a community of people that is trying to make the game better by providing 'free' modifications (mods) to the game that is readily available to anyone that bought it.
One of the most glaring things they left out is that they never place any 'old-timer' players in the game, such as in their other games like baseball or football.
So I'm taking on the enormous task of trying to come up with an all-time roster and by manipulating the game I'm trying to create my own mod for everybody to use... free of course.
Some other people have shown interest in adding other aspects of the game as well, including things like Gerry Cheevers mask, Grant Fuhr's Edmonton pads etc.

However, before anything else can be done, I needed to make up an all time roster for each of the teams; a large task in itself.
You guys are great with coming up with your ideas. I'm forever in debt for your hard work.
The next task will be mammoth compared to this one. I will have to find ratings for each of the over 600 players including:
Position Jersey Number Shoots Birth City Height Weight Draft Year Draft Position Birth Date Birth State Citizenship Speed Acceleration Agility Deking Ability Balance Control Endurance Faceoffs Passing Slap Shot Power Slap Shot Accuracy Wrist Shot Power Wrist Shot Accuracy Hero Rating Aggresiveness Checking Toughness Resist Penalties Resist Injuries Potential Prestige Shoot-Pass Pass-Carry Defense-Offense Fighting Play-By-Play Default Play-By-Play Photo/Cyberface Skin Tone Jersey Tuck Style Default Team Helmet Brand Stick Brand Skates Brand

Some will be easy while others will be next to impossible.
I'm going to try to come up with a normalized formula for each of these much like the one from the website http://members.shaw.ca/hbtn/player_study/ngp.htm

If anyone knows where I can find a place to download statistics for all of these players so I could manipulate them offline that would be even more fantastic

Thanks again. I hope some of you will use these rosters later on and will take ownership on your valuable input

On top of hockeydb.com, the Hall Of Fame website has even more info on individual players. They claim to have every NHL player ever. I'm not sure about that, but they certainly have every player you'll need to find out about. It might be better for your work because it gives pretty decent bio's for every player, and has stuff that hockeydb doesn't have like plus/minus, stats from international play, and post-season all-star selections

Here it is

The downside is that the site can be a little slow at times

Here's my all-time Toronto Maple Leafs (since the majority of great forwards play centre, I've moved a couple guys to the wing to keep the quality of players up) :

Sittler - Apps - Conacher
Mahovlich - Keon - Dye
Bailey - Kennedy - Jackson
Kelly - Sundin - Gilmour

Salming - Horton
Clancy - Brewer
Stanley - Pronovost

Broda
Bower

Quick and dirty for the Sabres (some guys like LaFontaine, Hawerchuk, and Horton don't qualify per games played rule):

(lines sort of by era)
Rene Roberts - Gilbert Perreault - Rick Martin
Dave Andreychuk - Pierre Turgeon - Alexander Mogilny
Don Luce - Craig Ramsay - Danny Gare
Miroslav Satan - Daniel Briere - Rob Ray
hon. mention Mike Foligno

Phil Housley - Mike Ramsey
Jim Schoenfeld - Alexei Zhitnik
Larry Playfair - Lindy Ruff
hon. mention Richard Smehlik???

Dominik Hasek
Roger Crozier (technically played more games in Detroit)
if not Crozier: Don Edwards? Martin Biron? Daren Puppa?

I was going to do Buffalo but my picks would be nearly identical to yours. One change is that Bill Hajt is more deserving of a spot on defence than Playfair or Ruff.

How about St. Louis, Carolina/Hartford Or LA?

I'll take a stab at St. Louis:

Berenson - Oates - Hull
Shanahan - Federko - Sutter
Tkachuk - Unger - Demitra
Courtnall - Turgeon - Gilmour

Pronger - MacInnis
Ramage - Barclay Plager
? - ?

Hall
Joseph
Fuhr

I took a look at doing Hartford/Carolina, but I don't know enough about their teams from the 80's. A lot of great players passed through there, but Francis is the only one who spent more than a couple years, so it's kinda hard to decide who should go or not.

Tom Barrasso. Started his career there, won Rookie of the Year there. Good enough for me.

Battaglia? :dunno:

I've always thought of Dave Babych as a Jet, but when I checked here were his totals:

Winnipeg: 390 games played
Hartford: 419 games played
Vancouver: 409 games played

I guess he wore out his welcome every 400 games or so, give or take! :D

How about LA? This is a tough team after the first couple of lines.

I'll take a stab at LA.

Simmer-Dionne-Taylor
Robitaille-Nicholls-M. Murphy
Granato-Carson-Sandstrom
Widing-Goring-Nevin

Honorable mention: Fox, Kozak

Had to move a couple guys around to make a fit.

Blake-Norstrom

Almost all of their best D-men played more games elsewhere.

I forgot Berry. I thought of Larry Murphy and Duchesne, but I don't think either played his most games with LA. Same with Gretzky. 9 full years in EDM, 7 full & 1 lockout with LA.

Crosby yes, but the others: No. They didn't play the majority of their games for Pittsburgh. And I think that is what is asked here. Otherwise you could add Luc Robitaille as well.

Here's my team. I start in the early 50's. I figure that there has to be a starting point and the game changed so much from era to era that I don't want to compare Morenz to Cournoyer. I know Lach and Cleghorn and Joliat also get left out, but the team'll be ok.

I'd roll these 4 lines.

Boom Boom Geoffrion- Beliveau- Naslund
Rocket Richard-Henri Richard-Dickie Moore
Lafleur-Lemaire-Shutt
Cournoyer-Pete Mahovlich-Bob Gainey

I picked Naslund so I wouldn't get called a xenophobic Canadian homer. Gilles Tremblay,Claude Provost,Bert Olmstead, even Stephane Richer could be a credible choice on this team. Hell, put Elmer Lach up there, why not Ralph Backstrom,Saku Koivu, Bobby Rousseau,Floyd Curry,Carbo ?

On D. Savard-Robinson
Lapointe-Laperriere
Harvey-Chelios
JC Tremblay could easily join that group. The other 50's d men like Johnson and co. are tough to evaluate due to Harvey's dominance. Bouchard and Tremblay would make a pretty nice mixture of skill and toughness though.

IN nets, Patrick Roy,Dryden and Plante, I'd just take a bribe, I couldn't pick 1 or 2 and think I was right, there are just too many arguements that make sense for each one of them. Hell give me Roy. Dryden and Plante's interviews would run too long.

I'd let Toe Blake coach because Scotty would never take the job if Toe was available.

Roger Doucet could sing the anthems.

Claude Mouton would do the pa.

Danny Gallivan on play by play with Irvin in the booth.

You forgot Pollack as GM.......lol

CSKA Moscow 1979-1980
G: Vladislav Tretiak, Dimitri Saprykin
D: Vyacheslav Fetisov, Alexei Kasatonov, Sergei Babinov, Sergei Starikov, Alexei Volchenkov (Anton's dad), Vladimir Luchenko, Gennady Tsygankov
