Well he did not use the :sarcasm: so maybe he was serious. :sarcasm:

Also, he is one to talk as a Caps fan.
I don't think Caps fans are eager to take Oates' side on anything after the ravaging of his former team during his coaching tenure. However, I do appreciate honesty and honesty, the answer to the poll is Oates.

Well then. honestly, who the f*** cares? It is splitting hairs here. Both guys are/were supreme playmakers. You cannot go wrong with either choice.

It’s very close, but I’ve always felt like Thornton did just as great, if not better, with less. He made a career out of making players into elite scorers.

Yeah. I went with Jumbo Joe, just thinking of the guys he's made millions for playing around him. But it's hard to say Oates isn't up there in all-time playmakers either.

Oates played in a more high scoring era and had much better goal scorers on his wing. Had Hull and then had Neely.

I think it is a toss up but I voted Oates.. his playmaking would have looked even better if Gretzky wasn't putting up video game numbers during the first half of Oates career.

Oates got two different guys to 50 goals in 50 games. Can't go wrong with either, but I love me some Adam Oates. He and Hull made me a die-hard fan. I think we're getting to the point where a lot of fans on this site don't remember Adam Oates or never saw him play.

I chose Thornton. Couldn't go wrong with either, good poll OP.

Here is what made me choose Thornton.

- hart winner, art ross winner.
Boosted his teammates stats significantly. Here's a couple examples.

- Turning Cheechoo in a rocket richard winner at 56 goals.
- Setoguchi put up 65 points next to him
- Patrick Marleau had his goal scoring career high beside him at 44 goals.
-Glen Murray put up 92 points next to him
-Milan Michalek had his career high next to him

Don’t forget Joe Pavelski. He scored 41 goals with Thornton.
