Cut the first round to best of 5 instead of 7 to save time. Once teams get to the conference finals, teams play one game against one team in the west, and then they switch and play the other.

Using thest teams as a reference, LA in 1st, EDM in 2nd vs Carolina in 1st, detroit in 2nd. La vs Carolina, EDM vs Detroit is game 1, for game 2 it's EDM vs Carolina, LA vs Detroit, game 3 is same as game one etc etc. At the end of the 14 games in total, the two teams with the best record, regardless of conference, go against each other in a normal finals match.

Now you may be asking yourself, but why? Here is why:

- This gurantees two 7 game series = more money for the best teams and NHL
- More exposure to the stars of the west to eastern fans, and eastern stars to western fans
- Means that the two best teams actually compete for the cup regardless of their conference
- Equal exposure also means that trophies can more accurately be given out without fear of "Eastern bias"
- Would make for some really great rivalries in the finals. Imagine a team plays another, and in their games they hate each other. Normally once the series ends they need to wait till next year to meet again. This way if they are both the best teams, they both go into the finals heated and wanting to win.

If there are any ties, there are many ways to decide this, such as a possible sudden death elimination game. This is another opportunity for money for the NHL, and fans will tune in to see who goes to the finals.

I feel this would truly make Lord Stanley the hardest, and most well earned trophy in all of sports while increasing revenue, and fan engagement.
