Ogopogo asks: "What the hell does Dit mean?
According to the NHL Legends of Hockey, his real name was Aubrey Victor Clapper and he went by his middle name of Victor as a child. Now the name Victor is not a particularly difficult word to pronounce, but it was difficult for his little brother to say. And when his little brother would try to say his name, it came out "Ditter" instead of Victor, and was later abbreviated to just "Dit." So I guess his nickname Dit came as a result of a childhood misnomer.
