Wetcoaster...
How do you find Mr. Pickwicks?
I am surprised there are not more people who vouch for the place.

I have never tried it personally but friends have and do not recommend it.

Ahh...
Ok.

I have not tried in in years too...
So I can't say about the quality anymore.

I will have to try the other places.
Great thread Wetcoaster.

Red fish blue fish in the inner harbour of Victoria is great. Extremely popular in the summer.

Delta, B.C.
First went there in the 1980's - quite good. Recently not so much. Terrible fries and the batter was way too greasy. The last time I had the halibut it was dry and chewy. And maybe the worst tartar sauce I have tasted in recent memory.

In Steveston I would go with Pajo's over Dave's.

I admit, they have changed ownership and it has taken a few steps back, but they still have pretty good food. I honestly think I like it more for the nostalgia/history of Steveston than the actual food... Supposedly Steveston Hotel is supposed to have pretty good Fish n chips too, though I have yet to try it there.

I heard that too...
But I never tried it.
It is pretty ghetto...
So I usually just ignores it.

I loved it when Windjammers was on Main Street about about 15th Avenue. One year I went there every (meatless) Friday for Lent and it was great because it's just a ten minute walk away. $12 for three large cod pieces and fries; that was awesome. They moved to somewhere on commercial and I don't know if it's the same owners but it's just not the same and it's far away.

Still on the hunt for cheap and filling fish and chips in the Mount Pleasant area. Lent is coming.

Funny thing that you mentioned Lent.
The new Baptist church I went to practised it...
And I thought it was interesting.
I knew it was more of a Catholic tradition...
And I had never practised it before as a Mennonite.

Do you usually give up meat Solidius?

But $8 for a 12 inch!

Still feel ripped off though.

Yeah.
Subway Canada sucks.

The U.S. Subway has way better deals.
Last month...
Or two months ago...
They had the chicken teriyaki for $5.

Unfortunately...
I did not need to go to the States.
Oh well.

On the mandated Fridays, yes, but last year I decided to give it up for the 40 days (minus Sundays) and I will do it again this year.

Windjammers was an essential part of making sure I did not die during this time.

Forgive me asking but what is Lent? Like what is the purpose for it existing? The wikipedia entry confuses the hell out of me. Use real people words. :)

In the Catholic tradition it is 40 days of preparation (minus Sundays) before Easter. This is usually an increased time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Key practices are Ash Wednesday (where you'll see people with black ashes on their foreheads) and Friday abstinence of meat. I don't believe it's mandated by the Church but common practice is to give up something for those forty days as further fasting. Other Christian denominations have similar practices but I'm not well versed in those.

It is usually a time of increased consumption of fish.

Yeah...
Like Solidius said...
Christians have to give up something...
As a cleanse...
In preparation for Easter.
People always say it is 40 days...
But it is actually more...
Since Sundays do not count.

This year...
It starts on the 5th of March...
And ends on the 17th of April.
When Lent starts really depends on when Easter is that year.

I believe it is a big deal for Catholics...
But not so much for many of the Protestant denominations.
I had been with a church for the majority of my life...
And last year was the first time I practised it.

Meat is a popular choice to give up...
But I gave up Facebook for 40 days.
Surprisingly...
It was pretty cleansing...
And I found myself with a lot more free time.

Oh well.

They had the oven roasted chicken for 5 bucks for a month, can't complain too much about that.

Robs Fish and Chips in Tsawwassen was great back in the early 2000's. It's been over 10 years since I worked and lived there.

Chicken often tastes funny down there (as well as other meat). At least that's been my experience. Other fast food examples - chicken nuggets at Rotten Ronalds.
