It's not listed, but Boys For Pele by Tori Amos is my favorite album of that year, and probably the entire decade of the 90s.

Also voted for R.E.M., Wilco and Beck. I somehow missed Soundgarden on the poll options, but would've also picked them.

New Adventures In Hi-Fi is the most underrated album in R.E.M.'s discography. Showed that after all their dabbling in pop, strings and distortion of the previous three albums, they were still a rock band at heart. "Wake-Up Bomb" and "Bittersweet Me" are great songs that still sound fresh today.

Stormblast is my favourite Dimmu album, especially the title track.

The impact of that record can't be understated. It sounded like nothing before it and ushered in an entire new subgenre of hip hop. It also kicked open the door for southern hip hop sound.

Close 2nd is The Score...why were we only given 1 Fugees record?!

Damn, it’s good isn’t it? Electrolite, So Fast, So Numb, Wake Up Bomb are great. Whole album is damn good though. Love it.

As I'm preparing for the 1998 list I notice my Windows Media Player had Unchained by Johnny Cash as a '98 release instead of it's actual 1996 date. Unchained would be No. 2 on my list. My favorite Cash album, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as the backing band!

Looking ahead to the 2011 list WMP got me again(2011 instead of 1996, really?) and I missed probably my favorite surf rock album Viva Los Straitjackets.
