Benn - Pavelski - Stone
Palat - X - Gaudreau
Lee - X - Kubalik
Hyman - X - Kaprizov

Slavin - Krug
Giordano - Brodie
Muzzin - X

Lundquist
Rinne
Andersen

EDIT: Edited to include other listed players. At what point does this team become a contender?

-- If you're going to put undrafted guys like Giordano on there then put Artemi frikkin Panarin there too.

-- Artem Zub looks like a top 4D this year, give him that last RD spot.

-- The only issue is at center ice. Good centers are almost always taken in the top rounds. The last #1C taken in the 5-7 rounds? Anyone? Do we have to go all the way back to Datsyuk and Zetterberg?

-- That said, Trocheck was a 4th rounder. Slide him in to 2C.

-- The Hawks have two rookie centers this year taken late (Kurashev) or not taken in the draft at all (Pius Suter). They can go 3C and 4C.

Joe Pavelski in 2003 but yeah looking at the past 18 years, if you're not going to find a 1C outside the first 2 rounds and rarely will you get a top-6 C outside the first 3.

Does anyone remember why he was drafted so late? His USHL and college stats looked very good.

It’s been a long time, but the obvious answers would be size and skating. He is 5’10” at best, and his skating is god-awful. I honestly don’t think there’s a single top-9 NHL forward or top-4 D with a worse combination of size and skating than Pavelski. Pavelski has survived on hockey IQ and hands/stick work for nearly 15 years in this league. It’s honestly impressive.

Literally the only good player the Pens drafted after the 3rd round in the past 15+ seasons and they didn't even sign him.

For all the differences that Caps and Pens fans have, this is one thing we have in common. Looking through Caps' draft record past 2nd round is like staring into a pit of despair. There are a couple of goalies and... there was also... wansn't there... no. It's all total s**t. No word of a lie, since the Ovechkin draft, you would have done better pulling names out of a hat. A LOT better.

Oh, wait. We did draft Vegas' top line center, Chandler Stephenson in the 3rd. Seriously, Vegas. You might want to look into that...
