As long as he works hard this year he may get recalled for playoffs

I’d like to see him on the 4th line, the bottom 6 desperately needs a playmaker and he showed more in his 7 or so games here last year than anyone else has.

Is he really an upgrade over Kahun,Neal or Ennis?
The taxi squad is also full of bottom 6 forwards.

The likelihood is no, and he hasn't been any TC. I suspect he's not far from the "where are they now" file.

2 of the players above have NHL level speed, the other has a lot of NHL goals.

He's a Kahun with less jam. Considering how Tippett disliked Gagner, he's not going to like Benson.

The next call up should be McLeod. He could replace Nygard... maybe even Turris.

Needs to skate better and we could have something here. But really needs to skate better first.

I edited the title as I thought that he went back overseas when this was bumped.

For how many forwards there are I doubt any prospect that they think has a future here is called up. You have the two week quarantine and then you have the issue of if they are struggling there are too many other vet options that Tippett will go to.

There just isn't a lot of time this year to be trying to get guys from your AHL squad into the NHL lineup.

I don’t think either Kahun or Ennis are better skaters than Benson. The advantage Benson has over both of them IMO is he’s a much better play maker.

Disagree. Ennis is definitely a better skater than Benson, probably Kahun too. I'd say they are on equal footing as playmakers, Benson is a good playmaker but he's not special in that regard.

I think he's in tough to make the roster full time because these last few years were the opportunity for him to grab a spot and with other, more skilled, forward prospects knocking on the door and with the Oilers finally having flexibility to add skill to the roster, it's going to be hard for him to crack the lineup going forward similar to Jones in that respect. This was their window to establish themselves and it's closing IMO.

Ennis is much shiftier and likely faster in a straight line. That said, Benson has a considerable size advantage between the two. I haven't been big on Kahun other than the initial excitement because many people said that he was a player and he has had respectable stats in his young career. We may bring him back, but he may also be a place holder for Benson or someone better.

Exactly, it would take a large amount of injuries to warrant the call. We currently have 17 forwards, with only one on LTIR, and have the option of dressing 7 defensemen if there was a bunch of minor injuries. I think we'd have to see at least 2, probably 3 forwards on LTIR before we call up someone from Bakersfield and even then it's more likely to be someone like Quine, Griffith or Cracknell as they wouldn't want one of the prospects not playing a game for possibly months.

Kahun definitely hasn't shown me anything worthy of expansion protection yet. But there's still a lot of time in this season.

Even though I've been down on Benson since before his draft, I still hope that he can click with McDavid or Drai (or at least in the bottom six). He did look decent defensively

Tipp needs to put RNH back with Yammers and Drai; Kahun could work with McDavid, but I still want to see Ryan McLeod get a few chances with Mc and Pulj; two big bodies that can absolutely fly, make plays, and forecheck flanking McDavid

Benson was playing well with Sheahan and Archie last season.

I’d like to see Benson - Khaira - Archibald

Holland did mention Benson in his interview with Terry Jones as a guy they want having playing time, which is why he is in the AHL.

Not out of our plans yet.
