I'll start off by saying I don't think Poirier is an amazing fighter but what I will say is that based on performance, Dustin has earned it. 2 of his last 3 fights were wins over former champions and he finished them. Hes number 3 in the rankings and on a tear. He isnt a drama guy, doesnt create hype, and wont sell a ton of PPV so yea, hes not that important to the entertainment part but his fighting has done the work and hes earned it the old fashioned way, not with this nee WWE trash talking way of getting your fight.
