New Jacket Ed Belfour stopped 26 shots en route to a 1-0 victory over the high-flying Maple Leafs in tonight's action at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, outduelling All-Star candidate Tomas Vokoun. The only goal scored came in the second period on former Leaf Vyascheslav Kozlov's breakaway, set up by Joni Pitkanen.

Belfour had struggled in net for the Jackets since his arrival in a trade with Philadelphia for Martin Brodeur, and indeed he'd struggled before the trade as well: tongiht's win was Belfour's first shutout of the season.

It may have come too late, though: unconfirmed reports suggest Belfour may be traded to a team in title contention as early as tomorrow, which would make young Peter Budaj the likely start for Columbus. Stay tuned!
