I'm not ready to throw Bednar to the wolves.

.... But with a guy like Q out there, free, who has been spending his winter skiing in Colorado, and has coached here before... if he was open to it, get him.

Q makes me think, especially with him just sitting up at his house in the rockies. But if it's not Q then I'd stick with Bednar as long as all this Mack stuff does blow over.

They should reach out to Q if they don't think Bednar has a future here. But I doubt he will come mid-season. I wouldn't be surprised if Lavi gets the ax if Preds falter, he would be a great get as well, plus @Duchene2MacKinnon would cream his pants if that happens.

I really don't think Q is a possibility. That ship has more or less sailed. Would I welcome him back? Sure...even though I'm STILL mad at him for sabotaging that run to the playoffs. But there are too many other teams that will be vying for his services. I'm guessing he lands in either Philly or Florida.

I assume Sakic made a call to see what his plans are.

Colorado is actually a desirable place to coach, considering the young talent and promising future.

Never said it wasn't, I just don't think Q has any interest in returning to old haunts.

And more importantly, I don't think Colorado is willing to pay the massive price tag it'll take to bring Q back.

I would bet that Sakic has no current interest in replacing Bednar. If the current slump would be due to bad play maybe but that slump is mostly because of sub-par goaltending. Unfortunately for him it looks like his plan for this year in net has not turned out the way he was hoping for. He knows that is not on Bednar. He also knows that he needs to improve the secondary scoring. The players also like to play for Bednar.

Bednar is safe until at least this time next season.

Goalies can't stop a beach ball. Not his fault. Team has been playing well outside of that.

The last few games have been goaltending. The beginning of this slump was definitely poor play.

Pffffft...whatever. Even if you think Bednar is at fault (and really I don't give a damn whose "fault" it is) coaches do far, far worse **** than whatever he may have done, so...moving on. Bednar has far bigger issues to deal with, like figuring out why his ****ing goalies have completely forgotten how to play.

    Except they really havent.

Every team will have a couple defensive breakdowns every night. The Avs are no different. The difference is those other teams get big saves on some of those breakdowns, while the Avs aren't getting any of those saves.

When the defense only allows 16, 21, and 27 shots against over the last 3 games, you really cant say they're playing like ****.

Fair. That said the breakdowns they have had are brutal.

The defensive breakdowns have definitely been a problem area this season. They made way more mental errors, turnovers, and bad passes than other good teams during that stretch in December and early January. They've just been much better the last couple games.

The goaltending has let them down for a little while now too, but those breakdowns, miscommunications, and avoidable mistakes have been a problem area for a month or so.

Not saying it's necessarily Bednar's fault though.

I don’t hate Bednar and think it will be fine if he stays but I don’t like his reluctance to changing his system. Most he does is shuffle lines slightly. I haven’t seen any change in the PK or 3v3 OT. I just would like to see him try new things. I do get that isn’t going to make a goalie make a save but it could spark some better defensive play to adjust the systems some.

That said, if a coach like Q is sitting around and you can get him, then do it. He maybe play wheel o’ goalie but he knows how to play the systems game and can outcoach people for sure.

Regarding the forwards and defense issue I’m sure Sakic is looking into things but Isn’t gonna mortgage the future for a rental either.

I remember the good old days when Avs fans were pooling their money together to buy Q a one-way ticket out of town...

I don't care Q is available. I prefer Bednar. No coach is perfect. IMO Bednar is better than Q with young lineups and he has won at every levels. Let's give him a chance to get there with better secondary scoring. The way I see it is the Avs have 3.5 seasons to show Mack that they are going for it. I'm OK to be patient until the offseason before doing something unless a very good deal is there to make prior to the TDL. As long as there is improvement every year I'm happy. And yes there was improvement this year until our goalies went all "swiss cheese" on us. They also had defensive issues prior to the goalies debacle but they have solved those for the most part. Fix the PK. Keep looking for a trade and look at UFA this summer to improve the team until the Makar, Timmins, Meloche, Kaut, Bowers, both 1st round picks, etc are ready to make an impact at the NHL level.

Bednar is not the problem. The future is looking very good. Let's not waste that future on panic trades.

    Since Dec 1: 19 games, 13 points. 0.68 PPG.

It's time to fire Bednar. He already has one disaster season on his record.

    Time to go.

1st season was an embarrassment but got a pass.

    2nd season was alright.

3rd season has been consistently getting worse and he looks out of options. Goaltending didn’t let him down tonight, the team just doesn’t perform.

Time to go, cycle has ended.

The question is, will Sakic ever fire a coach mid-season? Or ever, even? My guess is no, never. We're stuck with this downward spiral until his contract is up, sadly.

Bednar is a below average coach but this is all on Sakic and ownership for their insular nepotistic ways. They have NEVER brought in experienced leadership, choosing to hire former players or management every time. Look at their drafting. They've developed what, 2 players drafted past the second round in last 10 years and one of them (Butcher) refused to play for us. It feels like intentional ineptitude...they stack the cards against themselves.

If the atmosphere here is this bad...man that locker room has to be 10 times worst.

I think Q is overrated and if he's our only option at an experienced coach, I'd rather just wait it out and suffer.
