The purpose of this thread is to identify players that might be available for the right price. Players that are not in every thread(Seth Jones, Hamonic).

Post a scouting report and the reasoning behind acquiring the player.

Propose trade to acquire but not necessary.

Target: Codi Ceci 6'3" 205lbs - Ottawa Senators

Scouting Report:

A big defensemen with dynamic, fast skating and huge offensive upside, Ceci can win races to the puck and can stop breakaways. The player, considered a 200-ft defenseman, can go deep into the opponents' ice and still return to his position. Thanks to agility, he is capable of quarterbacking power plays--where his slap shot shines. He is also good at executing the first pass to start the breakout, essential to the start of a good offensive rush, and at winning one-on-one battles in his own zone. Ceci is very calm, composed and consistent with the puck. If this eighteen-year-old wants to be more of a defensive asset on his team, he should start getting in front of opponents’ shots more often to reduce the goalie’s amount of work. He could also improve his mobility along the oppositions’ blueline to get open.

Why target him:

Let's see... a big, fast, heavy-right-handed shot who can put up all kinds of offense? Ceci projects to a larger Dan Boyle. Ceci would strengthen the Oilers Power Play unit, as well as help generate offense both on the rush and in the opponents' zone. A two-way defenseman who can play in all situations.

Codi Ceci gets little to no powerplay time in Ottawa as Erik Karlson gets it all. He is already a top 4 defenseman and could break out offensively given the opportunity on the powerplay. He is young and could be with the Oilers a long time. Now is the time to target him before his full potential is realized.

Target: Chris Kreider 6'2" 214lbs - NY Rangers

Scouting Report: Kreider is a very athletically-gifted forward who has an all-world combination of speed, power and shot. You don't need to be much of a scout to know that Chris Kreider can skate. In fact, several sources have told me that they think Kreider right now could be one of the best skaters in the NHL, and I would have to agree. He's an explosive, dynamic mover with a very rapid yet powerful stride, allowing him to accelerate at an elite level. Kreider has an above-average physical game as he possesses a desirable frame and uses it well. He's aggressive on the forecheck, physically takes his assignments on the backcheck, and is a pain in the rear to get off the puck. He has a plus shot and is a very deadly goal-scorer, with an extremely accurate wrist shot and the ability to score from way out. He's decent with the puck and has the ability to be a solid distributor.

Why target him:

Oilers need to be harder to play against. Chris Kreider can improve the forecheck and skate with the likes of Connor Mcdavid and Taylor Hall. Big, fast, and physical. Oilers need a power forward and Kreider would fit that roll.

Target: Eric Gelinas 6'4" 215lbs - New Jersey Devils

Scouting Report:

A big, youngish defender. He's 24 and seasoned. He played 4 seasons in the QMJhL, 2 in the AHL, and is on his 3rd season in the NHL. I've read he is a bit of a hazard in the defensive zone but his shot is high level. He isn't very physical either. He may or may not be Vanier Ontario's version of Nikitin with the possibility of a better slapshot--the slapshot we could use.

Why target him:

He could be a bit of a reclamation project that needs a change of scenery to get back to a 30 point game with hopefully some help from the coaches to improve his defense. He is really cheap and under contract for two years. Maybe you can slot him in with Davidson, Reinhart, Gryba as the depth troupe for next year.

Supposing it would only make sense if you could trade Schultz to free up the contract/spot and upgrade the top 4 defense in FA/trade.

No half way. Number 1 D. OEL.

Ride out the season and all the flack that come with it. When the Oilers invariably win the lotto, trade Matthews for OEL. Arizona will only survive if they have a local superstar to advertise. It's Matthews or bust for that franchise. They are our best bet for the calibre of D this team needs.

Why target him:

Duh.

After the season. RNH for Jones. It sucks to lose RNH, but D is vital to make the playoffs.

Future

Pouliot - McDavid - Yakupov
Hall - Draisaitl - Eberle
Reliable bottom 6

Sekera - OEL
Nurse - Jones
Klefbom -Schultz

Nilsson/broissoit/other starter

I don't think Matthews alone makes them say yes. Matthews + something good we don't want to give up. OEL is a top-5 D-man in the league.

I wouldn't go that far.
He's amazing, but Keith, Doughty, Subban, Pietrangelo and Weber come to mind.

Player: Justin Faulk
Cost: Eberle + Reinhart or RNH or Hall
Why: Canes are reported to be having a firesale. Getting a top offensive player might bring in scoring and bring in fans. Hanifin might make Faulk expendable for right price. Oilers get top pairing RHD

Target: Erik Gudbranson|Alex Petrovic, 6 ft 5"|6 ft 4", Florida Panthers

Scouting Report:

Erik Gudbranson was drafted 3rd overall in the Hall/Seguin year. He's been a mild disappointment in Florida - was supposed to be a #1 dman, but at age 23, has yet to establish himself as a top pairing d-man. Tough-as-nails defensive defenceman, RHD, and with a mild understanding of Florida's cap and player situation, could be available when Alex Petrovic gets back.

Alex Petrovic was also drafted in the Hall/Seguin year in the early second round. From Edmonton, AB, a very foreign city. He's a tough kid, have always really liked his game - another stick-up-your-guns kind of player that I feel has been a little buried. Think he could blossom in Edmonton, but a little more of a risk compared to Gudbranson.

Why target them:

Tough as nails RHD from a team with two of them. Both players, in essence, would be top-4 versions of Gryba - Grybas that can pass and play consistent hockey. With them both being young, there's room for improvement as well. Nurse is our only good top-4 dman with bite and he happens to be 10 years old. Also, they're not Hamonic, and that was the rule of the thread.

Cost:

I'm thinking Florida moves from one of them. Ekblad is still not paired up with Gudbranson - paired up with Kampfer, and they've got Kulikov babysitting him instead. Petrovic is out after blocking a shot off the stick of Ovechkin himself. These two act as pieces with which they can get a young scoring RHD, a young scoring threat up front, or some prospects and picks.

I wonder if J Schultz, Slaphappy and a late pick could get their attention?
