BC Lions owner David Braley dies at 79 - TSN.ca

Owned the Lions since 1996 and also owned the Argos from 2009 to 2015. Owned the Ti-Cats 1987 through 1990 at one time.

CFL likely wouldn't be around today or at least not in it's current form if it wasn't for him.

Been looking to sell the Lions on and off for many years but no group met his price point. There's no choice of a sale now and it's not the best time for it.

RIP MR Braley he saved football in Vancouver and was generally known as a great guy. My condolences to his family and friends.

Not surprisingly, Braley was a big benefactor of McMaster University in Hamilton, the athletics building on main campus bears his name. He also just donated another $50M last year for a new medical research centre on antibiotics on main campus and has supported area hospitals for years. Folks here muse that his short-lived involvement with the 2015 PanAm games might have led to a funding deal for the new local NHL-size arena were it not for certain politics at that time.
