SORRY FOR TYPO IN TITLE, I KNOW ITS BARZAL I CANT EDIT IT MEOW

For me, its been relatively hard to project points because of the 56 game season. sometimes we get really high scoring during a short season or it could also be the opposite. I prefer to rank a player based on his peers etc

For example last season the top centremen ranked between 10 and 20 based on points were

10. Aho 66p
Pettersson 66p
Stamkos 66p
Point 64p
Barkov 62p
Kopitar 62p
Nuge 61p
ROR 61p
Tavares 60p
Barzal 60p
20. Toews 60p

just for reference sake. ranked at 30 was Claude Giroux with 53p

So where would you rank Barzy this year for the 56 game season based on points for only centreman?

I'm thinking "0" as well. The good news is that we have Aho, so he can effectively replace him

If he plays all 56 I’d hope he gets 20 goals for starters.

I’ll go 21 goals, 65 points

Now that Barzal signed I'm revising my prediction from 0 points to top 15-30. If Lee can start roofing some more, if Eberle stays consistent (which he's never done before in the pros) Barzal could go as high as 55-60 points.

He’ll be among the top centerman in terms of even strength points but the lack of power play points pushes him to the 11-15 range.

If he doesn't beat Toews, we have a major problem. I picked 11-15 but thinking anywhere from 14-18 with no injuries.

I still think Trotz could loosen the reins on Mathew. He's a special talent, and as talents go. Sometimes the rules can be bent for them. I am not saying he should be playing 100 ft hockey. But when you have a player that can help more than they are offensively, the Isles should be sending 100 ft stretch passes or work on them with Barzal's talents. I think after 2 years of proving he is committed to D to Trotz, he has earned a little leash. And the other players would probably not mind, they know how Barzal can help the team even more. The good is, Trotz had Ovie, Kuzy, Backstrom he knows how to play his star players. Maybe he will do this here.

I'm going with 19G 40A. Btw is he using a longer stick this year or has covid just messed up my perception of reality?

His line mates are gonna hinder him a bit but I think he’ll go very to close to ppg. If we magically pull a guy with a quick release on his line easily over ppg.

like what I’m seeing so far this year with the willingness to come up the middle. Honestly the best thing he can do personally for his production is move the puck quicker on the Powerplay

don't know if you guys saw this, but there was an interview with Barry, and he said that when he got here, Barzal told him that his shot was no good, and that is why he always passed.

well... i think Trotz helped him and gave him some confidence. niiiice....

He’s definitely shooting more. Both goals were bullets, I think he definitely worked on his shot. He’s just such an exhilarating skater, based on that alone, you feel like he can do something on EVERY SHIFT. Kind’ve like a RB who can take it the distance every run.

That being said, he wasn’t what you would call a finisher. But with that improved shot, he’s definitely improved his chances of possibly being amongst the elite.

I'm willing to say that before the season if we knew he could have less than 30 assists, we would think the 2021 Isles were destined to be a lottery team.
