Pretty lame poll...Barrie just came off probably the worst year of his career. So the answer right now is pretty obvious.

While this is true, and Barrie could have a better season than last, if you go back 2 years, 3 years, etc, the answer is still Brodie.

Im not saying Barrie is bad, but hes definitely a step below brodie.

Barrie is not a step below Brodie. The Colorado version of Barrie>>Brodie. Going back two to three years like you said, Barrie put up 59 and 57 points versus Brodie's 34 and 32, they're not even in the same realm production wise.

Neither Brodie or Barrie is good defensively, all these Brodie talk is just Leafs fans talking up their new player like usual, give it 10 to 20 games before they turn on Brodie. If they're expecting Brodie to be some stud defensively they're going to have a bad time. Why do you think he was parked next to Giordano all the time? Remember all the Barrie hype after the trade? Good times.

Brodie will be run out of town in Toronto. Gardiner, Barrie, Brodie will be next on the list.

Uhh, no, Brodie is not bad defensively. He's light years better than Barrie in his own zone. Gardiner was a bad decision, I'll agree. I said from the start replacing Zaitsev with Barrie was going to cause defensive issues, there was no hyping him up from me at all.

Brodie is usually pretty solid defensively. It’s just that’s he’s prone to some major gaffes

I haven't watched Brodie very much at all throughout his career, so I will make my judgement on him as I watch him this season. Having said that, nobody can be worse than Barrie was last season. Nobody. If he somehow turns out worse, then God help us. But I am confident that won't happen, so I will take Brodie over Barrie.

Brodie is a better fit for what the Leafs need and Barrie probably a better fit for Edmonton and their needs.

Barrie was awful last year, at least relative to my expectations, but I'm not willing to write him off just yet. He should excel on that Oilers PP with McD and Drai.

BTW, we had this exact poll about a year and a half ago....

Where are you seeing that? Are you reading your own special thread?

What is hilarious is that this empty statement got a like.
Its literally in every Barrie thread and the first two leafs fans that commented just bashed on Barrie without commenting on why Brodie is better. are you in your special thread lmao ????

Not really an empty statement, you can ask any Flames fan or anyone who has watched Brodie play extensively over the years. His defense is the same way Adam Larsson plays defense, its just smoke and mirrors.

Barrie on the other hand is only one year removed from being a premier offensive D in the NHL putting up elite numbers and no one is really trying to hide his defensive game. It's no secret he was not a good fit in Toronto but one season where he spent most of it on Babcocks doghouse doesn't make him bad.

They are completely different players. Barrie is an offensive specialist. Brodie is a transition/neutral zone specialist. Brodie is better in his own end but isn't anything special.

So you take whatever your team needs.

This is actually hilarious. Goes to show how important both sides of a pairing are.

As well as good old fashion home team bias

Considering their roles, I'd take Barrie having the better stats this year.

Brodie is a better fit on the Leafs? How many left handed Dman does the leafs need?

Barrie is the better fit on the Oilers. Right handed and puck mover.

Barrie is the better player imo, but only if he gets to play his style. If you don't let him joint the rush and carry the puck up the ice all the time Barrie is going to look horrible.

Barrie had a tough year last year, but he can easily turn it around especially on the Edmonton power play.

Brodie is definitely better defensively, and should hopefully be a way better fit for Rielly and potentially be his best partner ever.
