Currently on AHL deal. Sharks are at 49 active NHL contracts.

They didn't call up Shortridge or Korenar to play (yet), who are on NHL deals. So, what makes you think the Sharks will sign him and get him called up?

Well he is better than Shortridge and he can battle with Korenar for the starting position as they are giving him games in Barracuda today.

It is early but they are giving him games. So far Korenar isn't heavy competition as is.

Blichfeld was in the middle of the pack on the hardest shot (5th of 8) with a top blast of 94.8mph. But he was nowhere near the event's winner, Ontario forward Martin Frk, who broke not just the AHL record, but the NHL too, topping out at 109.2mph

It's different, but not super outrageous. Since the AHL is mostly a mix of as-yet-unproven prospects, veterans winding down their careers, and AAAA-level guys who just can't take the next step, there's going to be a lot of space for players who have one amazing NHL-level skill but can't bring everything else up to par. Frk is known to have an absolute cannon of a shot, but has never been able to hold down an NHL job because the rest of his game isn't nearly as developed. So he's more than good enough to make it to an AHL all-star game, but not quite good enough to get over that last hurdle to the NHL. Look at a guy like Darren Haydar, who put up a bunch of monster PPG+ seasons in the AHL, including topping out at 122 points in 73 games in 06/07. But he was a total non-factor at the NHL level.

Similarly I was at the 2005 CHL skills competition ahead of the Top Prospects game (this was the Crosby draft year, though Crosby didn't show up to the event because he was "sick". Jackass.) and the hardest shot was won by a kid named Devereaux Heshmetpour who I think was the only one to come close to 100mph. He never got drafted though because he was slow as balls. During the pre-event testing they put every player through some of the drills including doing the timed lap. He was dead last among all the skaters and even got beaten by at least one of the goalies (skating in full gear).

Dr. Sanchez how has Gambrell looked in the A since his latest recall? I know it's the Ducks, but I thought yesterday was one of his better pro games and he does always seem to improve every time he goes down. Appreciate the response.
