From www.hockeycanada.ca - GRAND FORKS, ND – Canada’s National Junior team announced on Thursday evening that defenceman Cam Barker has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will be unable to participate in the remainder of the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Barker will return to Winnipeg on Friday.

Barker did not play in Canada’s game versus Finland on Thursday evening. IIHF regulations state that teams can not add additional players due to sickness or injury (unless a goaltender) once a team has declared the maximum 22 players, therefore Canada’s roster will now remain at 21 players.

Check out www.hockeycanada.ca for the latest information on Canada’s team at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Back to the subject at hand, and that is Canada possibly being without both Barker AND Seabrook for the next game.

Personally it's quite the loss, losing both of those defensemen, but when you look at who is remaining, there is absolutely no reason to hit any panic buttons. Phaneuf, Weber, Coburn, Belle and Syrvet are all #1 defensemen on their respective clubs, and these players should be used to logging 30 minutes a game.

Certainly these games are much more intense, but the increased workload shouldn't be anything they cannot handle.

The only thing that would be of concern to me is if Seabrook couldn't return, and another injury occurs.
