I think skating is a huge part of it. He looks like he knows where to go and what to do with the puck when he gets it, but at the NHL level he can never actually get there fast enough to be able to do what he wants to.

Is Yamamoto injured or something? Why hasn't he played recently?

Nice! I didn't even realize he was the backup in Bako right now.

Also I see AHL.tv is on sale for $45 for the rest of the season. That's pretty tempting.

Yup. Shouldn't be long term though.

I'm pretty sure not. He just has been bad.

I knew he’d been bad but I thought they were just going to let it ride with him as the backup.

    Yeah, me too.

I guess there's really no point in keeping around an older, struggling AHL goaltender when you can give more ice time to Starrett, Wells and Skinner.

With all of the back to backs, you kinda need two solid goalies.

I worry about both Wells and Skinner since they're both so bloody inconsistent at this stage in their careers.

He played last night. A couple shots on goal, 1 minor penalty, no points.

Terrific play by Marody to set it up.

Really like Marody quite a bit. I think he has potential to be a good 3rd line center for us.

3rd/4th liner potential for sure. Enough offensive ability that he isn't a complete black hole, and he seems relatively scrappy. The trick for him will doing enough "other things" at the NHL level, other than scoring (which he isn't talented enough to do on a consistent basis). He is the exact type of guy who could potentially be a AAAA player, where he is almost too good for the minors, but not good enough for the big league. Those players often have to change their games significantly to stick in the show.

IMO he has 2nd line talent in terms of passing, shooting and offensive IQ. However if he ever wants to get there he needs to get stronger and faster.

Marody seems like a new version of Anton Lander. Hopefully he has a better work ethic and can improve in the areas he needs to to make the jump to the NHL as a full time player.

That's a fair comparison as Lander wasn't really the 'too good for the AHL' version until he was 22 and in his 2nd full year in the AHL, and Marody just turned 22 yesterday and has started off his rookie AHL season so far at an >PPG pace.

He's got the skill and brains to play in the NHL today, but that speed and strength are still AHL level. He's probably going to need this year in the minors, but if he can improve either his strength or speed (or both) over the summer, I don't see any impediments to him making the Oilers full time. We have a lot of quantity in the bottom 2 lines, but not much quality.

Lander was a very hard working guy, he just topped out as being a below average NHL skater.

Condors are up 5-2 after two periods. Yamamoto scored twice in 2:23 at the end of the second.

Lander was heralded as an amazing leader from even his pre draft days. The guy was captain material anywhere he went.

Marody with a goal and assist so far in tonight's game through 2 periods, which puts him at 19 points in 15 games in his first pro season; he's sure showing he can produce. It's the AHL, so doesn't necessarily mean a lot or guarantee anything, but it's certainly a good sign.

Marody is a great passer. He sets up two chances in five seconds here:
