if I'm basing it off the past year, then I'd order them.

Tavares
GP 82 G 37 A 47 P 84, 26th place Selke finish

Kuznetsov
GP 78 G 27 A 56 P 83

Backstrom
GP 81 G 21 A 50 P 71, 18th place selke finish

Matthews
GP 62 G 34 A 29 P 63.

Does this debate include playoff Kuz? Because no one's bringing that up on point totals from this year.
He's done something none of the other guys have done, lead a team to a cup.

Kuz is the best of the batch. Tavares is next. Backstrom and Matthews is toss up for me.

"context"
here's the context
tavares ended up with 84 points. Matthew's has yet to break 70

talk to me when matthews breaks 70
until then tavares has been better in the last 2 seasons

Matthew's fans suck on hypotheticals too much and not enough real life results

ifs and buts is your argument

Reality
Career high in goals
Mathews 40
Tavares 38

Is this not real?

Thanks for this tidbit, valuable addition to the Tavares case.

Matthews 10/ JT 13 before this season
Backstrom 12/Kuznetsov 48 before the season.

TOR duo: 71g/147pts (1.02ppg) vs WSH duo: 48g/154pts (0.96ppg)

this has to be the guys that score a lot more, and have the higher ppg

Washingtons duo is probably 3rd or 4th depending on whether or not you think Mcdavid makes up for Draisaitl not belonging with these other names

Tavares (28): 159gms, ES 15:43 (A+ qoc), 2.06p60, 1.56p160, 49.6cf% (+3.1), 49.9xgf% (+2.8) / PP 3:11, 5.41p60, 3.94p160 / PK 1:16
Backstrom (31): 163gms, ES 14:52 (A+ qoc), 2.16p60, 1.49p160, 51.8cf% (+1.8), 50.8xgf% (+2.7) / PP 3:17, 6.70p60, 3.97p160 / PK 0:48

Matthews (21): 144gms, ES 15:30 (A- qoc), 2.49p60, 2.34p160, 51.3cf% (+0.7), 52.6xgf% (+2.2) / PP 2:19, 6.29p60, 4.49p160 / PK 0:01
Kuznetsov (26): 161gms, ES 15:07 (B+ qoc), 2.30p60, 1.79p160, 50.4cf% (-0.4), 48.7xgf% (-0.4) / PP 2:43, 6.00p60, 3.77p160 / PK 0:03

The Backstrom-Tavares comp is close, though Backstrom has benefited from better linemates, and Tavares is significantly younger, so Tavares likely has the edge there.

But the Matthews-Kuznetov comp is a not close. Matthews is significantly better than Kuz in every area, and way younger to boot.

This poll shouldn't be close.

You're forgetting Backstroms huge defensive advantage over Tavares. It's close but Matthews puts leafs duo over the top

Using TSN, the Toronto Sports Network, as pro leaf bias as they are, to prop up Matthews probably won’t work well in your favor.

Especially when they had Jonathan f***ing Toews ranked as the second best player in previous editions.

Also love how you cherry pick the PPG stat, despite not having you know, the full amount of games played involved. It’s like a player, who is a Leaf, gets boosted up because of that.

I’ll give a slight edge to Backstrom
and Kuznetsov with their Stanley Cup win and all (Kuz probably deserved the Conn Smythe).

If Matthews and Tavares reach the same level of success, I’ll probably change my answer.

Backstrom takes the best Centre often. Best 2 way player of the 4 by a margin.
Matthews and Tavares have never performed at the level Kuzy did in the playoffs.

Kuzy had a great run this year, no doubt. I'm not even bothering with Tavares, but I don't know if that's a fair comparison with Matthews? Kuznetsov had 3 previous tries at the post season where he didn't really shine either. Given the age gap between them it's not really apples to apples?

Or is it just a matter of who is better at this precise moment? In that case, forget what I said lol

Yep Kuzy took a while to adjust and now he’s elite. 103 point pace over his last 82 games. Not saying Matthews is capable, but hasn’t done it yet. That’s ok too.

No one would go into a playoffs right now and take Toronto’s pair over the Caps. It wouldn’t make sense.

I don't get why a 69 pt player is regarded so highly. I'll wait until he actually lives up to his hype.
Posts like this are so boring and lazy. I can find better bait under the cushions of my couch. Please be more creative next time.

So why reply? I'm just stating my opinion. Kind of what goes on around here ya'know?
Because I want to encourage you to be more creative. It's more entertaining for everyone of the bait is engaging instead of the same old crap we've seen 100 times before. If there's gonna be a flame war, might as well get some entertainment value from it.
