I guess they just want to stack up on guys who have scored 2 goals in SCF game 7's?

OMG, I'm going to cry I'm so depressed about how bad this trade is

What the hell kind of deal is this Patrick? Sounds like they just didn't want to pay Downie a raise, and got a worse player on a cheaper deal for a couple more years.

These last two days don't make any sense. Hopefully they're not connected.

Can Mitchell and Coburn be the missing parts of this deal or something please?

Downie was our #1 RW. Talbot was Philadelphia's (a crap team) #4 C. I don't expect #1 RWers to play PK. How was Talbot's PP time in PHI?

Let me check NHL.com, and... yup, we're still #1 in the league in the penalty kill department. Clearly didn't need to make such a drastic talent downgrade to acquire a PK specialist.

Poor asset management. First move I don't like from this regime.

I am a fan of Talbot, but this is a garbage move. I don't understand it at all. I did want a traditional number four center which Talbot gives us, but not at the expense of Downie.

I remember laughing at the Flyers when they gave Talbot that deal. Now we have him for the next 2.5 years and gave away Downie. ****

Downie has a career high of 46 points and one 20 goal season. He has a penchant for bad penalties and is as streaky a scorer as anyone. He's far more a top six tweener than a legitimate first line wing. I'll grant you it's a strange trade, but Downie isn't quite as good as Avs fans make him out to be.

Disappointing move. I would have to assume Downie wanted to get paid after seeing what Clarkson got.

Perhaps Downie wasn't happy getting knocked down to the third line?

Talbot is being under rated here IMO. He is a really good locker room guy, that will do anything to win. He is not as bad as he has been on the Flyers. He will flourish here.

In saying that, Downie was sold for too little IMO. They should have gotten more for him. Looks like Roy put him on the top line to show case him a little bit.

Maybe Downie had a problem getting demoted? Maybe he was clashing with Roy? There has to be more to the story.

If they were showcasing him, you would think they could do better than Talbot. He's good on the PK but this trade makes no sense. Huge downgrade.

I will take a wait-and-see but on the surface I am not digging this. Downie has been solid for the Avs, especially coming off his injury from last year. I can understand the pending UFA thing and, yes, if he's not going to sign an extension it's nice to get a true roster player with solid experience for him but I don't understand breaking up the chemistry of a 10 and 1 team.

That said, I don't see how this helps the woeful Flyers either.

I've got to think there was locker room or team issues which contributed to this move because on paper this doesn't make sense.

We need Ruslan Fedetenko and Brad Marchand now too.

Has it been confirmed that this was a 1 for 1 trade?

The thing to me is I don't understand why you wouldn't try and get more for him. He could probably draw a first or high second from a lot of teams around the NHL. Something is off here.

It might not help them win now, but anytime someone offers you a better player for a player who has struggled, why not take it?

Ok now that I regrouped and tried to kind of make sense out of this trade I came up with this....

I guess Roy felt that Downie didn't work well on 1st line because he has limited offensive capabilites and held the 1st line back not being able to keep up with ROR and Duchene which makes sense. Now PAP will move up to 1st line like it was supposed to be.

But why not move Downie to 3rd line. Maybe Downie didn't want to play 3rd line?

Value wise the trade is bad, but I guess it balances the team better? I don't know. Still kinda puzzled.

I'm inclined to agree. Talbot can be beneficial to this team, I just don't like the price we paid. I really feel like there is more to come.

Was impressed with Downie's play in Denver.Thought he was a catalyst.Played 32 games over 3 seasons with Avs. Team was 22-9-2 in those games.
