Talbot has won a cup and been to the finals twice. Perhaps Avs wanted a bit more veteran presence.

Now being reported elsewhere... I would take it as a sign that Downie's asking price was too high and the Avs were getting something for him. Talbot is signed through 15-16.

I take it as a sign that the Avs are ****ing stupid. I would take a 2nd round pick over Talbot if they wanted to get something in return.

Talbot has experience and I remember him being a good penalty killer but this is terrible.

So trade a 3rd/4th round pick for Talbot. Flyers fans couldn't wait to see him go and widely recognized they needed an improvement on him.

This is a terrible trade, on paper, and reeks of two things:

A) Being cheap
B) Another Quebecois boy

I don't care about B usually, but I do when we're bringing in inferior players possibly just because of a favourable scouting report from Patrick's friends.

I'd bet that Mitchell moves up to the 3rd line and Talbot takes over on the 4th line. Adds another PK player.

Are you guys kidding me? You're seriously looking at his stats this season? NONE of the Flyers are scoring right now, they're a terrible team.

I'll admit I'm more than a bit surprised, but those of you saying Talbot is a huge downgrade on Downie are just plain crazy. Talbot's older. That's it. Otherwise, they're very similar players. And Talbot won a Cup.

I'll admit, this is a very odd trade, but I guess it may have been motivated by contract negotiations, or maybe there's someone in Lake Erie the Avs want to promote. I don't know. Downie wasn't exactly meshing as well with O'Reilly and Duchene as I would've liked.

If you're trading him, why not get a defenseman? More importantly, why was this traded needed at all?

It was never boring with him around. Best of luck to him in Philadelphia.

Are you guys kidding me? Talbot scored 19 goals last year. You're seriously looking at his stats this season? NONE of the Flyers are scoring right now, they're a terrible team.

No, Talbot scored 19 goals two years ago and has scored a grand total of 16 goals in the 4 seasons around that.

2009/10: 2 goals
2010/11: 8 goals
2011/12: 19 goals
2012/13: 5 goals
2013/14: 1 goal

Don't pick a fluke season and make him out to be a goal scorer.

Downie is better at every aspect of the game other than faceoffs and discipline. They're not close.

1-for-1 swap?
Would've thought we'd get something more from him.

Must be contract (=salary) related. Must be a look into the future deal. Must be. Must be.
