Actually, he has an eerily similar background, stats & strategy to this point that Paul Stastny did. I'm not saying he'd be anything as near talented as Stazz of coarse, but potentially a very good buy. Also, great to see some positive comments in this thread ! Good change.

Hey Just a fellow leaf fan visiting.

I believe this guy has a shot at being a good bottom sixer. As he can play both center and the wing. He's great defensively, can play the pk and can put up a few points. He'll be comparable too a Jay Mcclement/Matt Stajan.

Sad to see us loosing him but he didn't really have a shot of making it here.

Best of luck for him Though!

Yeah not close. Stastny had 45 and 53 in his freshman and sophomore seasons respectively. Toninato had a career high 29 as a senior this year.

If Toninato makes it it will be as a 4th line defensive specialist like a McClement.

It's been a while since we had a good 4th line defensive specialist on the team. I'd be very happy with that outcome.

Not sure if he's a Bednar style of player (probably won't matter anyway) but Roy would have loved this addition. Solid Yelle style, keep it simple two way guy for the 4th line, that goes hard to the net every shift looking for rebounds and tap ins. Limits damage against in the D zone, and provides gritty momentum building shifts in the O zone.

That's always been my preferred 4th line style of player. Hard way to play consistently though. That's why so many guys fall short if they don't have top 6 talent.

I think I had toninato on my Sicily trip a few years ago.

You see, because it sounds a little like Italian food. I haven't actually been to Italy but since this was a joke, I lied about that for the purpose of the joke.

in a sense, could this Don Tomato be considered a replacement for our former (and failed) first rounder Bleackley? like, I'd guess that if he was still in the org he would by now be in the same (likely) place that Tomato will occupy, no?

I think they had higher expectations than that for CB

Finally someone with the balls to call it like they see it. He says the avs are rebuilding and he wants to be a part of it. Like this kid already

Whats the likelihood this tomato gets in some games this upcoming season?

They have 13 forwards without him, but if there's an injury, or trade, or they want to do 14 forwards and 7 D, he'll be a good be for a spot. He's 23 so at worst, they won't worry about development, and they can keep him around as a 13th forward.

A lot will depend on how and where they play Jost/Compher/Soda. If they're all at center, and Soda is on the 4th line, then Toninato will either be a scratch or play wing.

If there's an opening as 4th center, then there aren't a lot of other obvious options. He'll be competing with Beaudin, Grimaldi, and Nantel for a spot. Beaudin is 20 and a first year pro who they likely want to start in the AHL regardless, and Grimaldi who's not a great fit on a 4th line anyway.

Nantel is probably his biggest competition. He's got one year pro under his belt, but he's still only 21, and they won't want him sitting around as a healthy scratch. If it's close, and both look fairly ready, the edge will go to Toninato.
