I would have taken the Blackhawks route with Jost and not qualified him, then played hardball with him and offer him a one year, 900K contract. If he doesn't like it, go enjoy UFA.

Ya he did not surpass Kadri on the depth chart at all. He's a 4th line centre. Nothing more. Nazem Kadri having his worst season still produces more than Tyson Jost having his best season.

The only reason he was "passed" was because Kadri got his dumb ass suspended again.
Jost is a 4C, and not even an elite one. For that you have to be a wizard on the draw.

Is he driving those great defensive metrics or is it Nuke? Jost is ok at fourth line but not good enough to be a shut down matchup centre. And not enough of a wrecking ball type like that Vegas fourth line was.

An upgrade would be pricier and not where the Avs should dedicate their cap room. But if Jost wants 1.5M you can replace him with something that fits the team makeup better.

Glendenning just signed for $1.5m x 2 in Dallas. Would gladly have him as the 4C. Physicality, Pking, and faceoffs. More than you can say about Jost other than the PKing.
