Don’t get this thought... you don’t want Rants offer sheeted, but that deal would work out. But even if he was offer sheeted, it is an easy match. More than that though... multi tasking is possible. They can sign UFAs, trade, the offer sheets (that won’t happen) can all happen simultaneously.

I'm not saying we should keep him but he wasn't as bad as people are saying, he was way better than Kerfoot in the playoffs, for example.

I feel like he was misused but using rentals properly is difficult.

Even then... Let's just say the Avs can sign Aho on July 1 to an 7 year ~9m per deal. Should they not do that because Mikko wants paid ~11m? Negotiations don't have to be exclusive. It isn't like they have to check off all the RFAs before investigating other RFAs. Now I'm the first to say that an offer sheet isn't going to happen. They are so rare, nobody should plan on them... but I don't get the logic of having to have everything checked off before sniffing around the RFA market.

Hypothetically... I'd take Aho at $2m less than Rants (realistically probably less than 1m difference) and for swapping 4 firsts for 4 years. I'd bet the Avs would improve their pick at least 2 years of the 4. Not gonna happen, but I'd say game on for that swap.
