Absolute pedigree when it comes to coaching experience with Bennett.
Parkkila is who everyone thought and expected.

Well played Joe Sakic.

Bennett has been an assistant in the league for a long time, most recently with the Blues for 10 seasons, with the Kings before that.

That's actually really great news. It's been a bad offseason in a way of what HASN'T happened (Duchene), but the things that have happened have been great for this team.

Bennett is thought of pretty highly in the circles I know. I was surprised St. Louis let him go.

Bennett, 55, has served as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues for the last 10 seasons. Working under four different head coaches in that span, he handled a variety of different roles, spending time in charge of the power play as a full-time bench coach. He also managed team preparation, offensive play evaluation and in-game analysis as the team's eye in the sky. Prior to his time with the Blues, the Innisfail, Alberta, native spent seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings (1999-2006), where he specialized in video analysis and statistical support and was involved in all areas of tactical and technical play.

This seems to be Bednar's weak area, glad they nabbed a guy with loads of NHL exp.

A couple former Avs in the picture on the website, Dan Hinote and Jay McClement.

Well at least they didn't bring in a total noob this time. Hopefully he knows what he is doing.

Thank god, there may actually be some hope for the offensive side of the ice now. And I can't say enough how excited I am that the Avs are still taking their goalies seriously.

Both of these guys have very long resumes with great highlights in the areas we need.

Way to go Joe!

So what was up with that one guy at camp who Bednar coached with in the AHL?

An assistant with a lot of NHL experience. Exactly what this staff needs. I like the hire. Hopefully he can do what Army couldn't in multiple seasons and get the damned power play clicking.

Parkkila is a no-brainer if he can get Varly back on track.

Happy with this. Don't know much about Bennett (other than Blues fans were fine seeing him leaving ), but he looks experienced, which is something I really wanted.

They probably should have mentioned the other NHL goalies Parkkila has coached for the casuals instead of just Varly.

"He also managed team preparation, offensive play evaluation and in-game analysis as the team's eye in the sky."

I didn't know that's something coaches are supposed to do as an Avs fan.

They should have listed his entire history. Even if people don't know the names from other leagues they understand "all-star" and "best".

So glad we got this guy. His track record year to year is damn near perfect.
