Matthews has 230 points in 231 career games. i wonder if he can continue this pace and end up being over career PPG player by end of this season. That would put in special group of current players. Not many current players have more points than games played.

Only when he doesn't try, which is far too often. He's capable of playing solid defense, did it best as a rookie.

I thought he did it best in his 2nd season, atleast until near the end of it after he came back from his latest injury.

Especially with the goals he's scored and his overall ice time. He's a very special player who should be contending for Richard trophies and being top 5-10 in points in full seasons.

And then played with KK and AJ, not exactly easy to carry 2 3rd liners and do it all yourself. It was an up and down year for him.

would have been nice if he showed up tonight but he's still been our best player this season

He has been from points point of view. Andersen has been our best player, if you are considering all players

Points don't tell the entire story. He has been mediocre against good teams. Yes he scored 4 points against Chicago but that's not the Chicago of 2012

Against LA he had 2 points primarily because LA is bad. One was all hard work from Jhonsson and other was a turn over by LA in the span of 45 seconds

It's time he needs to step up and take charge. His effort is utterly disgrace. So nonchalant. No pride in his game

Take a look at McDavid, Crosby, McKinnon when they have bad games. Their next game, they burn the village down
Nothing in his game. No emotions

he is in for a big year. expecting 55 goals and 110 points. The league will finally start to realise what a special talent he really is
And the team will miss the playoffs because he and they don’t work hard enough without the puck.

Suggestion to Babs. Sit Matthews in a room and have him watch every Connor McDavid game. Then have him sit and watch Nathan McKinnon games.

MacKinnon? He was a 50-60 point scorer until 2 years ago. People just like to rip on AM over anything

If our PP was just average he would probably have 30-32 points and be right there in the top 3 scoring. with only 7 PP points hes still top 6 in scoring. he has 19 ES points. His effort level can sometime leave more to be desired. I think hes playing great.

Oh my god, Andersen has a .912 SV%. He's been entirely average and below his usual play.

It's like Leafs fans are so used to terrible goalies that anything remotely competent seems like a miracle. Meanwhile Matthews is already starting to get the Kessel treatment lol.

It blows my mind when people say Andersen has been good or even their "best player". That 3rd goal last night was putrid. He has been average at best.

Matthews has been doing well but he does disappear a little too much sometimes. Either way, he's been better lately.

That should tell you how bad our team has been. You could be right about Andersen being putrid, but that putrid still won us most of the games we won this year

You have seen the D in front of him, goalies don't win you games like they used to. Goalies rarely stand on their heads to win you a season. You still need a team in front of you

Felt Andersen and Matthews have been good this season to be honest. Some goalies will let in a bad goal from time to time but the amount of 10 bell saves he makes to cover for the joke in front of him is unreal.

Matthews has been great this season all things considered but he could be even better which is crazy. He doesn't like Babcock though, you can tell.

Everybody agrees that if Matthews tried harder, he would easily enter that tier. It speaks volumes that he's what, top 5 or 6 in league scoring despite a bunch of bad games? Him and Nylander are finally getting back that old chemistry.
