Peterborough Petes General Manager Michael Oke announced on Saturday that the team has acquired defenceman Austin Osmanski from the Mississauga Steelheads in exchange for Peterborough’s 4th round pick in 2018 and 4th round pick in 2020.
Osmanski, a 19 year old rearguard from East Aurora, New York, is in his third OHL season. He was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 7th round, 189th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He was originally selected by the Mississauga Steelheads in the 6th round, 105th overall in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. The 6’4”, 210lbs defenceman has played in 125 career OHL games, all with the Steelheads, and has recorded 4 goals, 15 assists, 19 assists, and 133 penalty minutes with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
“Austin adds additional experience to our defense group,” commented Oke. “He’s got a large frame and uses his size and reach effectively to take away passing and shooting lanes, and during battles for space. He is known as a hard working player both on and off the ice.”
