Peterborough Petes General Manager Michael Oke announced on Saturday that the team has acquired defenceman Austin Osmanski from the Mississauga Steelheads in exchange for Peterborough’s 4th round pick in 2018 and 4th round pick in 2020.

Osmanski, a 19 year old rearguard from East Aurora, New York, is in his third OHL season. He was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 7th round, 189th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He was originally selected by the Mississauga Steelheads in the 6th round, 105th overall in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. The 6’4”, 210lbs defenceman has played in 125 career OHL games, all with the Steelheads, and has recorded 4 goals, 15 assists, 19 assists, and 133 penalty minutes with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Austin adds additional experience to our defense group,” commented Oke. “He’s got a large frame and uses his size and reach effectively to take away passing and shooting lanes, and during battles for space. He is known as a hard working player both on and off the ice.”

The Mississauga Steelheads have completed a trade to send defenseman Austin Osmanski to the Peterborough Petes in exchange for 4th round selections in 2018 and 2020.

Austin Osmanski, a 7th round selection (189th overall) of the Buffalo Sabres at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, has played his entire OHL career to date with the Steelheads. Originally selected by the Steelheads in the 6th round (105th overall) of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, Osmanski is now in his third season in the league. Osmanski has racked up four goals, 15 assists and a +4 rating in the OHL. As a reliable blue liner, Osmanski played a crucial role in the Steelheads’ 2017 Eastern Conference Championship last season.

The Steelheads would like to thank Austin and the Osmanski family and wish them the best in Peterborough.

Wondering if anyone has seen the Osmanski "hit" recently. The 67's broadcast was lamenting he got away with one tonight in their game vs. the Fronts.

Do we have credible reporting that he isn't being offered a contract, or just Twitter scuttlebutt?

He's a nice story, and a great kid, and my girl and I were sitting in the section over when he got drafted and enjoyed all the cheers and his family gathering all around, but other than an ATO with Cincy I'm not sure why he'd get one.
