At one point this year the top 3 teams in the East were all from the Atlantic, while the bottom 5 teams in the East were also all from the Atlantic, with the entirety of the Metro Division hanging out in between.

The Habs, Sens, Sabres, Red Wings and Panthers all sucked so badly to start the year that we did not need the success we had in order to be firmly in a Playoff position throughout the course of the season. So in that sense, with the top 3 teams from each Division making the Playoffs, we were as close to handed a Playoff spot as you can get.

Having said that, the Leafs needed to avoid being terrible, and managed to take that one step further by being good. Had they not been good, they could've been another shitty entry in this year's edition of The Atlantic Division.

There's a gap between the (likely) playoff and non-playoff teams, yes. However, we'd be 1st in one division, 2nd in another, and a bit closer to 2nd than we currently are in another. When it comes to playoff teams in the Atlantic, it's very competitive.

.... one of these teams aren't in the Atlantic.
Pretty sure it's just to showcase the top 5 League-wide, and to point out that the top 4 of those top 5 are from the Atlantic.

However, I actually haven't heard a lot of the "The Atlantic Divisions sucks!" narrative recently - These streaks after the All-Star break could be a large reason why.

The average Points of each Division was posted in another thread, and the Atlantic was 3rd out of the 4 (though really it just showed that there's the Central Division and then everyone else).

Toughest division to get through the playoffs.

Not overall the toughest division in hockey. But realistically who cares about the bottom feeder teams?

The Metropolitan has 5 teams delegated by 7 points.

The Central probably has three 100 point teams.

The Atlantic probably has all permutations of matchups that you want to avoid in the first round.

The Atlantic teams are heating up but no way is it the toughest division in hockey

I like how you said, the Atlantic is "one of the best divisions in the league". I should hope so,....there are only four divisions.
So does one of the best....mean being 3rd best? Wow.

That's literally the case right now.

well we play the Atlantic teams more then any other so it's not a surprise we have more points then the top teams in the other division's I would think our strength of opponents is weaker then the top teams in the other division's with how bad the bottom half + Florida was in the first half.

If only the Atlantic didn't have 4 of the bottom 6 teams in the NHL, then maybe you'd be correct. Top 4 teams are great though, especially Florida with their resurgence. They could be a nightmare for Tampa if they get in.

1. The East destroys the West when they meet in the cup final.

2. The East will destroy any Western team this year in the Cup finals.

3. The East Strong.

Top heavy actually means something. It means that our top teams are better than any other divisions' top teams.
The Central's #1 (Nashville) is higher than our #2 (Boston), and the Central's #2 (Winnipeg) and the Pacific's #1 (Vegas) are higher than our #3 (us).

It just means that our Division is polarizing - We have the best of the best, with a few teams crowded near the top (3 in the top-6), and we have just about the worst of the worst (Sabres and Coyotes are neck and neck for that honour), with a few teams crowded near the bottom (4 in the bottom-6). And then there's Florida.
