He's been a nice, above average player...but I don't think he'll leave much of a legacy. Played in relative anonymity his entire career. He'll be remembered as a rare Coyotes lifer. The closest thing they've had as a face of the franchise. Maybe how Dineen is remembered in Hartford

There was a guy that walked around the old Omni during Atlanta Knights games with a trumpet. He actually fell through the glass during the 1994 Turner Cup final against Fort Wayne.

Yes, I completely agree. Gone but not forgotten. In fact, I still think Atlanta every time I see a Calgary jersey or hear "Flames". That move right there back in 1980 should never have been permitted to have taken place, Calgary entering via Expansion. Legendary actor Glenn Ford along with a number of investors offering fair market value, enthusiasm, honourable intent. Thats twice now the NHL's failed in a virtual no-brainer market, broken its covenants with not only the fans in Georgia & the throughout the south but with right thinking fans everywhere else as well.

Then it all unraveled...

It was deliberate, malicious, deceitful. ASG had absolutely no interest in the Thrashers. Red headed stepchild they didnt want that came with the other goodies.

Probably have an arena in Scottsdale or elsewhere in Phoenix named after him; display case setup at Glendale arena. If the team does wind up in Quebec or elsewhere I think he may well play out his contract somewhere else but his home is in Arizona, returning thereafter. Sunk some deep roots in the community.

They're also the only relocated team in history which assumed the name of a team which had previously been in the market (and which team continued to exist, albeit under a different name).

Mind you we might have two more examples of this as people in Seattle and Quebec City seem set on Supersonics and Nordiques.

New Jersey Devils - No; these are distinguished by the Sandow tail tagging
Dallas Stars - No, and the only changes from the previous year were the Texas patches on the shoulders
Colorado Avalanche - Only year for this tail tagging
Phoenix Coyotes - This is photomatched to the first year

Absolutely. Thanks for pointing that out, interesting, though why anyone would find it even remotely disparaging I have absolutely no idea whatsoever. Indeed, the history of teams "patching" their jerseys & or helmets is an interesting one.... As a side-bar to the Hamilton-NY sale & relocation; the team during transition, the sale to Big Bill Dwyer & relocation to NYC was for awhile called the New York Hamilton Tigers. By the time Training Camp had opened however, a proper name, the Americans and their fabulous jerseys designed, though anecdotally Ive read bits that suggest Dwyer was considering Tigers, same colour scheme etc.

Interesting stuff there.

My personal favorite patch story is that it used to be common in the early 20th century to have a special patch to commemorate the previous year's championship. Out of every single team that ever had a patch of some type, they never won another Cup while it was worn.

And the St. Louis Cardinals wore patches after the year they won the WS. It was also common in baseball in the early 1900s.

The legacy of the Atlanta Thrashers will be one of the lousiest and worst franchises in NHL history. It will be seen as the NHL's failure to jam hockey down the throat of a city that didn't like it in the first place. In 1980 Atlanta went to Calgary and only last 8 years in the NHL prior to that. 19 years later they somehow got a team back and lasted 12 years. Two failures means you should never try them again. It is pointless.

This was an incompetent franchise who had a 1st, 2nd and 1st overall pick in a row and somehow managed to screw it up. I know people complain and say the Pens and Hawks were just so bad for so long and that's why they have the teams they have. Wrong. You can be in the position to have a great future and still mangle it up. Atlanta did and Columbus always has.

I was told I was a good fan for supporting the team up until the end. I don't feel like a good fan. I feel like a chump.

This team and it's fans never had a chance. Unwanted first by Time/Warner, they were only interested in Ted's media empire, and later by ASG who only wanted the arena and the Hawks; this team was on life support from it's inception.

ASG did a marvelous job of allowing the franchise to sink into mediocrity while driving off all but the die hard hockey fans. What's worse, the League was aware of the situation and did nothing to prevent it.

If by some miracle another NHL franchise calls Atlanta home, they will have to get along without me and my disposable income. I'm done investing my time, money, and emotions into a League that cares so little for it's fans.
