ATD2020 Draft Thread II

[BenchBrawl]

ALL-TIME DRAFT 2020!

The draft will last 24 rounds. You must draft 2 goalies, 6 defensemen, 12 forwards, a coach and 4 extra picks.

1) The clock starts Monday, January 20th at 17h00 (EST).

2). The time windows will be tight but reasonable.
24 hour clock for round 1
then 12 hour clock for round 2
then 10 hour clock for rounds 3-6,
then 8 hour clock for rounds 7-14,
then 6 hour clock for rounds 15-20,
then 4 hour clock for rounds 21-25

One hour time window deduction for each skipped pick (two hour deduction for missing a 12 hour clock - leave a list), with a minimum 4 hour clock guaranteed regardless of deductions.

3). NO TRADING

4). ADD/DROPS - At the conclusion of the draft, there will be a 7 day period for add/drops. All add/drops must be 1-for-1. Dropped players will NOT be eligible to be added by other teams.

5). Regular season rankings MUST BE VOTED ON by at least one GM per team. The penalty if not done is a potential lowering in the standings because each GM will rank his own team first. Co-GMs who both vote each get half a vote for the regular season rankings in their own division.

6). NO MENTIONING UNDRAFTED PLAYERS!!!

7). PM the next GM after you have made your pick. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL!

Going defense with pick 84 and selecting bill quackenbush to the St. John’s maple leafs.

A 3 time post season first team all star quackenbush should be a steady all around presence on the maple leafs defense.

Great choice to play with Dickie Moore. Malkin was the best offensive center left, including playoffs.

Many offensive centers will find a niche roster spot in a 40 teams draft, in a way that it was impossible in a 20 teams draft. Not Malkin-level obviously, but still good enough to bring secondary scoring.

Personally I think Ted Kennedy is a much better foundation center than Evgeni Malkin, and I like the Malkin pick. Kennedy is the guy coaches want on a playoff run. But I know many will disagree with this and that's fine.

It remains that the two earliest dynasties had a two-way center as its motor and cornerstone; Frank Nighbor and Ted Kennedy. Then you had Jean Béliveau and Henri Richard for the 1st and 2nd Montreal dynasties. Then Bryan Trottier in Long Island and Mark Messier in Edmonton.

I glossed over Detroit because they're trickier and I rather not talk about them at this specific moment.

The 1970s' Montreal dynasty was a bit different but even they had a good two-way center.

My point is that dynastic teams always had those type of centers.

Edit: Somehow forgot the 1960's Leafs. They too obviously had such centers, including Red Kelly.
