Saskatoon Snipers

Coach:
Anatoly Tarasov

Forwards:

Baldy Northcott - Cyclone Taylor - Ziggy Palffy

I really like how this line turned out. Taylor is obviously a high end offensive C, even at 40 teams. See bio for incredible domination he had in the PCHA. He brings elite speed on top of the offense a ton of versatility as he played D and rover in his day as well as C. He could be counted on to check back and although he wasn't overly physical, certainly wasn't soft either. Strong SC performer with 17 goals in 11 best on best games. He reads as someone Tarasov would love to coach and appreciated for the reasons mentioned.

Northcott is someone I've long wanted to own. Honestly reminds me of Boris Mikhailov (Mikhailov is obviously better) with less offense, although a better defensive game. Tons of intangibles. He was very physical, good but not great offensive totals. High end defensive player. And if someone wants to take a run at Taylor, Northcott will answer that bell. He is the plus plus glue guy on the line.

Palffy is one of the sneakier offensive players in the ATD. He brings a lot of artistry Tarasov would have loved and was certainly responsible defensively to boot so he (and Taylor) can be counted on to cover up when Northcott is hammering down low. I can see him and Taylor really shining in the transition game.

Valeri Kharlamov - Vladimir Petrov - Konstantin Loktev

Kharlamov and Petrov reunited and get to roll with the 50's and 60's version of Mikhailov in Konstantin Loktev. A line Tarasov would be quite familiar with given he coached all 3.

Kharlamov is the artist of the line. His offensive wizardry is well documented. He and to a lesser degree, Loktev will be the primary puck carriers.

Petrov brings strong offense as well but balances it out with a solid defensive game and high end physicality and strength. He has a bullet shot and can do a lot of work without the puck.

Loktev reads a lot like a 60's version of Mikhailov. Not a big guy, but tough as nails, willing to do all the little work many other Soviets didn't enjoy doing, like checking in both directions.

Bob Davidson (A) - John Madden - Ken Randall

Not a pure shutdown line (pretty close) but one thing this line can do is make people's lives absolutely miserable. All 3 are way above the bar physically speaking with Madden and Davidson being great defensive players and Randall certainly being very solid himself, having played about 2/3 of his career at Dman.

If you look at the division, there are some big boys at C and I wanted to counter with someone who's not only strong defensively but a major league physical presence as well. Enter Madden

Dubbie Kerr - Vladimir Shadrin - Håkan Loob

Spare:

Marcel Bonin - LW
Bobby Gould - RW

Defensemen:

Harry Howell - Hod Stuart (A)

Richards-Mikita-Engblom-Horner

Richards, Couturier, Mikita are the Fs for 5-on-3s,
Horton and Hedman will be the team leaders in minutes played. While they are not regular partners at even strength, they may get shifts together in key situations or pair up if needed to match up against a stacked top line.
