So, the answer is 1996 Avs (Krupp + Ozolinsh are the giveaways) but they really botched what could be a cool idea. First of all, it shows the wrong lineup (last I checked the first line centre was Canadian) and theres apparently a missing player on the last line

Also, they show a Czech defender but thats incorrect. Skoula was on the 2001 squad.

I guess "by a landslide" is some Avalanche reference too?

And yeah, it could be a good idea.

Are the forwards in alphabetic order or something? Just thought of that because Scott Young would be American.

From the HOH thread it looks like they misidentified Jon Klemm's nationality. And he was a swingman IIRC, so it makes sense that they have 7D and 11F listed.

Eddie Shore is a 7-time Hart finalist.

Let that sink in.

His first two years in the NHL he led in penalties in the regular season. The next two seasons he led the league in playoff penalties, winning the Stanley Cup then losing it in the finals the next year.

Then 7 of the next 9 years Eddie Shore was a 1st team all star, ending with another Stanley Cup.

He is a top-3 all-time defenseman in any universe.

This is such a disappointing hockey season. Canada wins Worlds, Canes lose to Tampa. Ugh. I'm almost considering cheering for the Habs the rest of these playoffs. In fact, if Isles lose, I almost certainly will have to.

Unfortunately so, yes. I'd like Canes' chances against any other team remaining well enough, but if Tampa and especially Vasilevsky play like they did against Canes, those teams are doomed.

Except Habs, Habs seem to have obtained magical powers by slaying the grossly overrated Leafs.

I have shut off most games this season as unwatchable but man that NY-Tampa game last night was incredibly exciting.

The goaltending was great, Varlamov had the edge and Barzal & Bailey exposed repeated bad defensive play by the Lightning.

I'd watch a NY-Vegas final. :)

Kucherov's regular season stats? 87 point pace per 82 games with his PPG

Playoffs? 93 point pace per 82 with his PPG.

Dude has that extra gear. Best playoff performer of the "next" (post-Crosby, 2010s drafts) generation.

If Kucherov leads the playoffs in scoring (which is looking very likely at this point), he'd be the 2nd player (aside from Forsberg) to lead the league in playoff scoring after missing the entire regular season. Or am I missing someone?

Also - going back to NHL consolidation (1926-27), he could become only the 8th player to lead the playoffs in scoring twice in a row - Lemieux, Gretzky (3x and then 2x), Lafleur (3x - but tied twice), MacLeish, Esposito, Howe (tied once), Weiland (tied once).

Close: Dickie Moore

The first of two times the Habs left winger led the NHL in playoff scoring he had played just 13 of 70 games with 1 goal and 4 assists in the regular season.

Seems pretty much a lock to lead in scoring now - Point is seven points behind him and I can't imagine a world where in the last 2-5 games Point is racking up Points when Kucherov isn't.

Also seems like a fractured CS field if Tampa wins. Winning the Cup twice, leading the PS in scoring both times, and potentially not winning the CS either time would be... almost as bonkers as Potvin never winning the Smythe.

Montreal got attention this year as the first Canadian team in the finals in a decade but I am just realizing now 3 straight teams made it from 2004-2007.

How do Kucherov's past two playoffs stack up against the best two consecutive runs from a player who didn't win the Conn Smythe either year?

A short list of competition (off the top of my head) might include:
  • Lafleur (1978 & 1979)
  • Potvin (1982 & 1983)
  • Gretzky (1983 & 1984)
  • Gilmour (1993 & 1994)
  • Fedorov (1997 & 1998)
  • Pronger (2006 & 2007)
I wasn't going to go back prior to 1980, but Lafleur really jumped out. Am I missing anyone obvious?

Among back-to-back Stanley Cup finalists...

The American Jake Guentzel led the Penguins easily in goals and game winners in 2016-17 then tied the team lead in points in again being the goal-scoring leader for the Pens the following postseason.

One could easily argue Lidstrom in the 2008 & 2009 playoffs.

I’m not sure acquiring Keith won’t help the Oilers.

Is 5.5 million a year on a 38 year old defenseman to play on our second pairing who has a tremendous amount of miles on him a safe enough bet that it's worth it?

We had a lot of cap space this summer and he just tied up about a third of it on Keith. We had all the leverage and he couldn't get them to retain anything?

Keith isn’t a top pairing guy anymore, but he’s probably an elite second pairing defenseman. I think that might be money well spent.
