I like modern players because I often think of older players and how they'd work in modern times, as such, I like the idea of how they would work with modern players. I liked imagining how St. Louis and Starshinov would work together. I'd like pairing Datsyuk with Hooley Smith. I think Malkin and Charlie Conacher would be amazing. Clancy-Chara would be hilariously awesome. Cyclone Taylor and Steve Stamkos would be potent.

ATD Eras Over Time:

- allright, here is the data broken down into 10 year segments

- many players span two eras. I have simply placed them arbitrarily in one era or the other based on my own rough judgment of which era saw the larger part of their peak.

To open up more room for future stickied threads, the MLD Championship Retrospective thread has been unstickied and a link has been added to the top of the first post in this thread. Since nobody but me had posted in the MLD retrospective thread since 2011, I figured that was the way to go.

Edit: If you have any suggestions on how to manage the sticky threads, you can always PM me

We should expect a TDMM update shortly. ;) He's our first two-time winner, isn't he?

(Ten years of this and I haven't even won a division in any ATD though players I pick keep getting promoted and I've co-won the MLD twice.)

Such is life.

Can a defense-first team still win in the ATD?

At this point, it's been 6 drafts since the last defense-first team won (EB's team in ATD12). Every championship team has had the ability to defend when necessarily, but some have clearly favored offense over defense (ATD2010, 2012, 2014 champions) and the others have been well-balanced (2011, 2013).

My theory is that defensive players are overvalued compared to offensive players in the ATD. It's not that defense-first teams can't win, it's that the best value in the ATD is usually on offensively-oriented players, and good value picks are what win. For just one example, look how much earlier Bobby Clarke and Bryan Trottier get drafted than Phil Esposito every draft. (Or heck, look at all the defensemen drafted before Mario Lemieux this past year)

TDMM - You should also update the first post with your team , this is a nice place to quickly look at the evolution of champions.

Thanks in advance.

Hockey Outsider has also won two ATDs and Sturminator has won three.

Meh, Sturminator won two ATDs, then joined the best team in the draft right as the playoffs started to bandwagon to a third. Lucky guy :D (Kidding mostly, he did a great job of running your team in the playoffs last year).

Hehe , this is not entirely correct , he did draft a lot of players in the later rounds , plus I could never dream of being half the debater Sturminator is , which counts for a lot in winning tight series. He also played with the line-up.

It's also noteworthy to say that Sturminator teached me a lot of things since I started being a GM in 2011 , so his mentoring has been a huge part of my quick rise as an ATD GM.In this context it was only natural that he would be the one to take over my team.Speaking of which , I haven't heard from him in months so I hope he's okay.

I doubt a dynasty could ever happen in the ATD.It would take one insane GM to draft 4 winners in a row all the while avoiding voters fatigue. It would be kindda cool if someone did it though.

If Rob Scuderi comes back next year and wins I'd say 3 in 4 is a "dynasty"

Someone should update the OP with the 2020 team while respecting the original format. There are also some formatting error in it, like rmartin65's name is misspelled (as well as TheDevilMadeMe's name in ATD2014 has a superfluous space) and the font is not the same in ATD2019.

I'd do it, but I can't.
