Bobby Clarke vs JACQUES DEMERS
gets Daymond Langkow for Chris Gratton and Mike Sillinger
July 1, 2001
Bobby Clarke vs MIKE BARNETT
Traded Daymond Langkow to Coyotes for Flyers choice of a) Blues 2002 first round pick and 2003 second round pick (not exercised), or b) 2002 second round pick (#52-Dan Spang), 2003 first round pick (#11-Jeff Carter)
Bobby Clarke drafts Jeff Carter in 2003.

Paul Holmgren vs SCOTT HOWSON
Traded Jeff Carter to Blue Jackets for Jakub Voracek, 2011 first round pick (#8-Sean Couturier), 2011 third round pick (#68-Nick Cousins)
The only asset that was Philly's own was that 5th round pick in that Feb 1998 trade. (but they get the pick back after trading away a 3rd rounder in March '98)
I think you have to be good to be lucky. You attack 2 rookie GMs in Barnett and Demers. Then you take on a 1st time GM in Howson.
This is a lesson that you need to get something for all your assets.
Every time you let an asset walk for nothing, you're starting from scratch like an expansion franchise.
