Shouldn't the All Star Game just rotate between Pittsburgh and Washington until Crosby and Ovechkin retire?

Only if you want to alienate the other 28 governors not having their chance to shine, and prohibit the two teams from participation in Winter Classics. :sarcasm:

I'm not sure you understood my post. The All Star Game, the Winter Classic and for that matter the Heritage Classic should all rotate between Washington and Pittsburgh.

For that matter, perhaps the Stanley Cup Finals should as well. I need to think about that one for a moment to be sure.

Edit: ok thought about it. The SCF should too

How much does the stadium issue figure into it? I know that ASGs (not just in the NHL but other leagues as well) are sometimes used as an incentive to get new buildings approved. But once a new barn has been around for more than a few years it seems like a bit of a non-factor in the decision.

Leagues just like to showcase new stadiums for the rest of the league to see, a lot of the times.

I think the arena is part of it, but I don't think it's a crucial factor. A large convention center and high end hotels are probably more vital to any bid. I know Raleigh had to have a new convention center before they were considered for the all-star game. Ottawa's new convention center was a major factor in their selection, since previously, they lacked a large modern hall for FanFest.

Then add Washington to the "new arena since last hosting" category as well.

Rangers will have a fully transformed MSG in two plus years time (already underway), so the NYC will be a prime candidate to get the game again.

You would have to think that Anaheim should get one considering they've been in the league since 1993. Detroit, Edmonton, Calgary and Long Island will never get one unless they get new arenas.
