We all know PPG Paints, UPMC, Mario Lemieux Foundation, HighMarkBlueCrossBlueShield, and 84 Lumber would be all over them.
Oh for sure, like Desmith on a fallen woman, they’d be all over that on their stuff.

I think Crosby would also angle in Tim Hortons and Reebok. Malkin with his own company, etc.

As long as the oldest teams in the league get stuck with the Viagra and Cialis ads, it's whatever.
Whatever Mylan re-named themselves.

It's just inevitable. We've known for a long long time it was coming.

There are some soccer fans here. I never hear people complain about it.

Yeah I don't buy jerseys so my fight on this topic is limited but I agree with Big. It's tacky as hell and absolutely screams "lower tier" at least among it's fellow NA professional sports leagues. I'm not really a traditionalist but watching the games with Sheetz logos plastered on Malkin's helmet would feel... cheap.

And speaking for myself I did not see this as on the horizon or had any notion that it was coming. My impression has always been that there was little movement on that subject right up until it became a suddenly-inevitable development due to a pandemic. Seems a little like one of those initiatives sitting on the shelf by the owners just waiting for a opportune time to implement because they "had no choice."

I refuse to buy jerseys of my favorite team because their sponsor is a friggin' pyramid scheme.

Ads on jerseys may be inevitable, but my continued financial support is not.

The NHL is a pyramid scheme

I'm sure a lot of it is simply cultural differences and not being used to it but man... a big hell no from me. I gotta kowtow to the corporate overlords enough as it is here in the good ol USA. I really don't want to whore my sports out to them as well.

I mean... obviously there are already ads all over the dashers. That's fine... expected. I dunno why exactly the jerseys is a bridge too far for me but it just is.

Lol. I hated the idea up until a few years ago. I've kinda given up the fight. Nothing's sacred anymore. If the millions itd bring in let the team fire bad head coaches without worrying about the $3mil in dead money... Seems good me, lol

Subsidize our logo space to fund eccentric GMing lol lol

If that was the tradeoff, sure. But you know as well as I do that's not why this league drags it's feet on bad hires, garbage-tier coaches and do-nothing front office staff. The NHL is filled with dinosaurs and guys who are constantly failing upward.

Like you said though I suppose it is what it is. I've massively de-invested from the sport as the years have gone on so whatever I guess.

Make me.

Do you think the ads will be on the fan versions? I don't think so.

If they're not on any of the jerseys available to fans (just on the stuff made for the players) then I'm at least open to the concept. To the shock of nobody, I'm sure, what I'd be okay with would be ridiculously limited and my asking price would be 10x what the teams are inevitably going to take for larger ads in more visible area. I absolutely expect jerseys with ads to be sold to fans as an inevitability, though. Even if the league won't sell them at first, there's going to be demand from fans who want 'the real thing' and the league simply won't be in a position to say no to a potential revenue source.

The only soccer jersey in my closet is a USWNT jersey. No ads. Beautiful. The Galaxy sash broken up by a pyramid scheme? I mean...if anything was going to make me change allegiances, it's having to see (and hear if you're at the games) Herbalife non-stop for 2 hours whenever they play. Problem there is LAFC is sponsored by YouTube so f*** them too, I guess. Most British teams seem to have online betting sites on theirs and I absolutely see a future of that in North America being the inevitable course taken. Teams sell their dignity for the cost of a bench player just to do something to compete with the huge market/marketable teams that get the multinational sponsorships that destroy any hope of balance. The cap may prevent teams from gaining an unfair advantage in terms of what they can spend on their roster, but it's also going to raise the floor for the teams almost certainly making the least on their ads. When we're talking a difference of a couple thousand dollars the damage will be negligible, but when Toronto is inevitably selling their ad space for 10 times what the average team is...it's going to create inefficiencies. If you want super teams you want those inefficiencies. I vehemently despise super teams. Hell, the Chicago Bulls made me hate basketball as a child; I'm hardwired to root for the small guy. I've veered off into incoherent rant territory so I'm just gonna step back now. I just worry that a quick fix could easily snowball out of control down the road.

Aussie Rules they have a small ad on the chest and a bigger one on the lower back. It’s not too bad and I believe there is restrictions on what can be advertised eg like alcohol and cigarettes etc

This isn’t usually my teams jumper. Every year there is an indigenous round and they get an aboriginal artist to design one. All teams do it

To be honest I'm past the days of jerseys and will probably put the million I own on ebay for real cheap non-pandemic. I'm 35. I have my signed lemieux ones and that's all I need. I'll frame them one day for an office. I don't really think i'll put on a jersey again unless i'm playing in some adult leagues. But to wear and support a team? I'll just rock all black with a 412 snap and im in my team's colors.

I just think the days of me rocking a younger dude's jersey in support are over.

@EightyOne - really good find dude. I am just so blind to it. They've talked about it for sooo f***ing long. Like constantly warning fans it is coming. I didn't think they'd sell jerseys with ads to fans. Jeeeeees
