If Toronto has to move Nylander due go cap crunch the return might be underwhelming. Not terrible if course but it might not be the huge return one would expect for a young, signed and highly skilled player.

No one will be wanting to do Toronto any favours.

According to Friedman the Leafs could have had Matthews at 8 years 12.XX (less than McDavid) in the summer, but felt it was too much at the time.

With Matthews strong season, his ask either went up to 14 or 15 on an 8 year term.

The Ducks have lost 18 of 20 and are 4pts out of the playoffs.

R.I.P Randy Carlyle's head coaching career at the NHL level.

62 years old and lost his past two jobs due to being too old-school for the new NHL.
I'm honestly surprised he got the Ducks job that 2nd time around.

Bob Murray takes over as head coach in the interim, and despite that horrific streak they're on, are still within only a few points of a wildcard spot. Anyone thinks this team can find some push to their game and squeeze into the playoffs?

They are paying $15.5M for a broken-down Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler the next 2-3yrs. Not even mentioning a slowing down Getzlaf. Ouch. If they didn't have that problem, the bones are there for an amazing team with a great young goalie and a good young defense.

Sharks are 21-6-2 since the loss to the Sens on December 1st. They are rolling without EK, so imagine what it could be like when he returns...

Goaltending is going to a major question come playoff time though.

Love to see the Sharks win the cup with EK getting the Conn Symyth.

Hoping Stone stays East when he gets dealt. An EK vs Stone final would be sweet.

Ducks were so dumb to get rid of Boudreau.

MAYBE you could make an argument that they felt that Boudreau wasn't getting enough out of their current group, who had a legit cup window at the time. I mean, I don't agree with that argument, but I could see the grounds on which someone might think the best move would be to replace him with an "all in" coach or something.

But... man. Randy Carlyle? That's the guy you pick? A SECOND TIME? After already proving in Toronto that the game had moved forward and left him behind like a relic from the bronze age? That has to be one of the most obviously terrible coaching hires of all time.

Karlsson's exceptional month and a half was the biggest catalyst for their great form to begin with. If he returns and continues where he left off, watch out.

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he’s our coach next year.

    Experienced coach with zero leverage.

I don't think Dorion is THAT bad a GM.

I'm not saying he's going to hire the best coach, but he will at least hire a (budget) coach in line with the org's short-to-medium-term plan of rebuilding and developing young players. Carlyle is the LAST guy who fits that description.

Carlyle will be too expensive. We're going to be bargain bin shopping.

Colorado could easily tank and get 2 lottery picks this year. Currently 22nd , 2 pts up from 26th
