I'm kind of confused about what is taking COL/Rantenen so long to make a deal. Colorado has $15 million in cap space and Rantenen is a stud at 22yr old with back to back 80+ point seasons.

I think he wants Marner money and Sakic does not want to pay that.

At least Point has a cap issue to work around. TB has a somewhat realistic reason not to give him 10m.

I dunno, maybe there are some GMs out there that dont want to risk a long term big money deal on a young kid that could fall off or get injured and leave the team in trouble for many years to come.

It would be a huge shock of he fell off. Over the last two years he ranks 5th among RW in P/GP. The 4 in front are Kucherov, Marner, Kane & Wheeler

Oh sure, but his Agent has a pretty solid comp to go by with the Marner contract. I wouldn't say he has no leverage, he's a key piece to Colorado's offense and there is no one who can replace his production for them.

Top 5 RW in production over the last 2 years and only 22yr old. Those are not easy to find and again Colorado has more cap space than anyone in the NHL. I think 8/80 is reasonable, but it sounds like right now they are offering around 8 million for a longer term deal.
