That's a great return for Pittsburgh, honestly.

Either way, the real losers are the Habs, who managed to give up Galchenyuk a year ago for Domi, lmao

That Arizona GM is just not good. He keeps making bad decision after bad decision. This is likely his last year and his last hail marry.

Not sure how that will be cap relief for TOR. Ceci is RFA and made 4.3 last season..

I’m also really confused by this move. Leafs fans are calling it a win just to get out of Zaitsevs deal and most don’t want to sign Ceci, they just want the cap space.

They’re going to go into next season with Reilly and Muzzin surrounded by rookies and ahlers until Dermott comes off IR. Are they not trying to win a cup? Muzzin is on the last year of his deal as well.

Domi (28G 44A) for Galchenyuk (18G 22A)
Galchenyuk + PO Joseph for Kessel + Birks (ECHL)

For the last 4 years playing in PIT with 2 of the best centers in the league, Kessel has 1x30 goal year. Domi outscored Kessel at half the salary cost and the GM had to send out his 1st round pick, a promising 19 year old 1st round LD, along with Galchenyuk just to get a decent return on his previous trade blunder. He keeps digging a deeper hole with his F-Up Domi trade.

He also traded Murphy for Hjalmarsson.

DeAngelo and 7th overall pick to Rangers for Stepan and Raanta.

Stepan was a slow center to begin with but the league has gotten faster and the NYR GM found a sucker willing to take on his salary and give him the 7th overall pick in return.

Domi never sniffs those numbers in Arizona. Tocchet's system doesn't allow it.

Still odd trades in Arizona every year adn the team still never wins. Goalie still a biggest hole because Raanta is a walking injury.

Seems like if Zaitsev for Ceci is true Leafs just got out of their cap dump completely free. They can just walk away from arbitration with CeCi he has no contract.

Why is Ottawa always helping them out

Get credit for a 4.5 million cap hit for 1.5 million in cash for this year.

But there is also considerable long term cash/cap implications for Ottawa. Aren't they kind of like the same player anyway? Miscast as top-4 D (or higher)? If you're Cash strapped Ottawa, why take on the 5 year risk of Zaitsev when Ceci is a few years younger and an RFA. All those young players like Chabot, Tkachuk, White, Lajoie etc are going to want to get paid in real money when their ELC's are up over the couple years. That's a big financial commitment to a D with some question marks. I find it hard to believe they need that much help reaching cap floor. Though I wouldn't put anything by Melnyk.

Domi trade was bad but Domi needed a change of scenery think Donato in Boston he was doing nothing in Arizona.

They added a legit 1st liner in Phil for a borderline 2nd rounder in Galenchuk. And a good third liner in Carl. Their forwards have always been a mess they went from 'bad' to 'ok.'

Blueline is very good.

That team missed the playoffs narrowly they don't suck that badly CO barely snuck in I could see them getting over the hump this year.

They let Ceci walk and there opening night defense group with Dermott on IR looks like this.

Reilly/?????
Muzzin/ ?????
?????/?????

Fill in the ????’s with there 7th-11th defenseman from last season.

They’re going to need to score 5 goals a game.
