Good thing Lou named himself GM. We know one guy who wasn't getting the job there.
you and your sticky HF voodoo black witch magic tricks
The hell is going on in Toronto?
OEL for Matthews confirmed
As a Leaf's fan I said a few days ago that Matthews just doesn't look happy or comfortable in Toronto. It just might be his demeanor but to me he doesn't look like a guy who fits the City. He might grow into it but I don't think he plays his career there.
If the Coyotes had a tweener 1/2 youngish center to include I could actually see that being discussed.
Agree on the LOL.
I could see him here shortly.
If, and that's a big IF, the Leafs go all in after Tavares and get him I could easily see a scenario where they go after OEL with Matthews. But I do think the Coyote's add would have to be huge.
He could always just not resign with the team. Then we don’t give anything up. Win-win!
That would be in 6 more years before Matthew's is free to leave.
Strome, Domi, OEL.
We throw a future first in if he doesn’t sign with Toronto.
They can send Gardiner and we retain 50 for 2018-19.
Please send Strome to Toronto so we can see that Leaf fan back pedal.
After the playoffs Gardiner had, I could see Matthews + Gardiner for an extended OEL, Strome, Domi or something around there. Deal would basically hinge on what Toronto thinks of Strome.
They may not even want Strome if Tavares signs there too. Taking Gardiner helps ease JT cap hit
What if the ask is the 5th overall pick, OEL, Strome and Domi? When's the last time a franchise center that young has been traded? Ever? The price would likely be enormous.
Matthew's is worth significantly more than OEL on age alone.
Take Strome out and I'd probably do it. Either Strome or 5OV. Not both.
We could just flip Strome for like Faulk or something later if needs be.
-OEL (50% retained & handshake for 7yrs, 62mil)
-Max Domi (the legacy add)
-Dylan Strome (helps replace Matthews to some small degree)
-2018 Minnesota 2nd (55th overall)
2019 Arizona 2nd
You aren't getting a young franchise center for a 27 year old lower half number 1 D, a 2nd line winger, and a big maybe NHL center prospect. It just usn't happening.
I'd do it. Why not bump that 7 years to 8 though?
How many D are you counting as clearly better than OEL?
Matthews wants more ice-time and to be used similar to other stars, more PP time, longer shifts, etc. and Babcock I guess doesn't really want to do that. At least that's the gist of it from what I have gathered. Basically he isn't the focal point like Eichel is for Buffalo and McDavid is for EDM because Babs doesn't want it that way and Matthews would prefer it be that way.
