This Pastrnak fella is pretty good. 3 more goals tonight and 2nd hat trick vs the Habs this year.

Pasta's 41 goals puts him slightly ahead of Ovie and Matthews 40 each.

Going to be a fun race to see who wins the Rocket Richard award. My money is on Pasta to win it as his true breakout season continues.

obviously it won't happen and the NHL will just let him sit on LTIR until his contract expires cause the league never misses a chance to let teams circumvent the cap...but if weber retires, RIP Nashville

Can someone explain how this cap recapture works? It looks hilarious, I'd just like to determine exactly how hilarious.

I just read what he said...they fired him for that? Yikes. Feel like there must have been more going on behind the scenes.

I’m sure Roenick firing has as much to do with the fact that NBC has been under fire since the Matt Lauer sexual harassment case came to light as well as the scathing Ronan Farrow book which for the most part rips the bigwigs at NBC a new asshole by exposing blatant sexual misconduct and covering it up, as anything Roenick did.

What Roenick said was insensitive stupid and dumb and a fireable offense in most work environments.

It was also horrible timing on his part as I mentioned above, due to all the flack NBC has been going thru, Roenick wasn’t even given the benefit of the possibility he would be able to dodge this self induced bullet.

5-10 years ago before the me too movement, JR might have been able to skate out of this. Now days? Not a chance.

What ya mean...I don't follow?

Lost 3 zip to Canucks...what am I missing?

I just feel like they're looked at as a bubble team but i think they've been really awful this year. They are horrible defensively, worse than us, and it seems every time they face a team with a halfway decent offense they get lit up for 5+ goals, and their scoring has been pretty bad, unlike last year when they were able to outscore their defensive problems a lot of the time. Kane is still having a good year but not as good as last year, Toews is okay but DeBrincat is having a real bad Junior slump. And Gustafsson is proving to be a 1 year fluke. I've always liked the Hawks this is why i'm so hard on them. Also i'm pretty sure we only play them once this season and its the last game of the season lol.

The cap recapture is determined based on when he retires.

CBA article 50.5 (page 267) explains it.

Now, bear with me, grab a beer and strap in. This is complicated shit.

A = Total money paid to player (up to the day of retirement)
B = total AAV (add up all the years up to the day of retirement)

Calculate A minus B (= C)

C = Cap Advantage Recapture

The Cap Recapture penalty will be spread out over the remaining years of the SPC.

If a player is traded, the cap advantage is calculated for each team individually. In 2020, Montreal will have no more advantage of the cap as the added up AAV is higher than the money paid by Montreal

Nashville however, has paid 56m in total in 4 years, while having a total AAV of $31,428,572. The difference is $24,571,428. That's the recapture penalty for Nashville and will be spread out over the years of the SPC.
So if Weber retires in 2025, there's only 1 year to have that penalty, resulting in the $24,571,428. But in 2020, that number is divided by 6 (years remaining) and results in $4,095,238‬

Now I need a beer

So what's the penalty for Nasvhille going to be and how many years will that penalty be on their books?

The penalty is $24,571,428

What matters here is when Weber retires and how many years are left on the SPC. The SPC ends in 2026.

If he retires in 2020, it's 6 years. $24,571,428 : 6
If he retires in 2021, it's 6 years. $24,571,428 : 5
If he retires in 2022, it's 6 years. $24,571,428 : 4
If he retires in 2023, it's 6 years. $24,571,428 : 3
If he retires in 2024, it's 6 years. $24,571,428 : 2
If he retires in 2025, it's 6 years. $24,571,428 : 1

Divide the 24m by the no of years left, basically.

NSH total money paid minus the total AAV during his tenure with the club, divided by the number of years, is the annual cap recapture penalty until 2026
