There were a few. I think most of it stemmed from a) our other signings/acquisitions and b) not knowing that a QO would almost-certainly lead to a 1-way contract, though.

Merkley is far from something special and probably not a guy who will have a notable career but I still like this for SJ.

Some people were critical of it in the vein of we should have signed him over someone like Peca, but losing their shit over it? Don't think that ever came close to happening.
