Tkachuks lack of speed is part of the main reason why Calgary looks like they lost that series to a much quicker Colorado team. HMM ITS ALMOST LIKE OUR SCOUTS KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING WHEN THEY AVOIDED HIM.

And yet he has 2 goals and 3 points in 4 playoff games. But yea, the Flames definitely would be better with Juolevi on their IR.

hot take: yzerman will surprise everybody by trading for stamkos, who willingly goes to detroit to be close to home and fulfill his all his "i am yzerman" fantasies. stevie builds around stamkos and hires the appropriate coach to turn him into heart and soul two-way late career yzerman, returns the wings to playoff glory.

glen sather take: yzerman surprises everybody by trading for stamkos, who goes willingly because yzerman pyjamas, helping TB out of impending cap hell. without their captain and historically most disappointing playoff performer, and with new cap flexibility, they comfortably re-sign point and regroup in the offseason and win those cups people were predicting. meanwhile, stamkos is stamkos and yzerman keeps spending money on old garbage to "help" him, destroying his rich, once proud franchise.

There’s no way someone made this comment?

Jesus f***ing christ that’s like Flyers fans saying Nolan Patrick was a better pick than Pettersson.

Yeah, Ehlers hasn't been showing up but we can't talk until a non-EP prospect can put up 4+ seasons of 15 goals.

Like we are ****-talking a player's playoff performance when our guys can't even score in the regular season on a non-playoff team.
Why would my critique of Ehlers have anything to do with Canucks prospects? Should Winnipeg fans not be able to comment anything to Canucks fans until they make a SCF?

A number of the Lames haven’t really been playing in that series. Physically they’re there but mentally it seems they checked out.

they seem to have different systems when johnny hockey is on the ice and when mortals are on the ice. gaudreau does whatever he wants and it is not working, while everyone else plays third line checking hockey. sort of the opposite of ek in san jose where they have him reigned into their system so far he's mostly just a soft #4 dman.

neal has been brouwer 2.0 for the flames. targeting the second tier of the ufa market has not gone well for them.
Neal has a Sept birthday, so he signed at age 30, turning 31 in 2018. 5 year term.

Personally for me, I would say a player's prime years goes up to around 33 give or take. Anything longer than 3 years max for Neal was going to risky. 3 years would have taken him to 33, turning 34 that calendar year.

Everyone ages differently. That 2003 draft class, you still have Bergeron, Pavelski, E. Staal, some others playing well. Then you can see father time catching up to the likes of Carter, Phaneuf, Seabrook, Perry, etc. Not as effective as they were at age 30. You have a group that bottomed out like Eriksson, Backes. Then you have the wear and tear with injuries piling up like Kesler.

NHL needs to start taking notes from the MLB when it comes to free agent deals to guys who hit the market around age 30. They aren't tossing out 7-8 year term to take them to age 38 anymore. Going much shorter now. But, easier to do in the MLB since only 10 teams make the playoffs and 2 are 1 game and done. NHL it's 16 teams so you have a much better shot to make it, thus you can roll the dice more.

Phaneuf had a relatively short peak, 3 years most likely.
After that, he was just there...serviceable but something happened after year number 3.

To me, just seemed like he got weaker in his all around game. Slower, less power in his shot, slightly worse pivots. So weird.

He’s shooting over 20% but sure he has 2 goals and 3 points yet he’s still a MINUS 3!

His skating is getting exposed in this series. If you use your eyes and watch the games he’s getting out paced because of skating concerns that were well known when he was drafted.

Who said anything about Juolevi? We are talking about Tkachuk. Don’t deflect.

Tkachuk and the Flames = overrated trash.

He stopped scoring as many points on the PP. That’s really about it.

Even at his best in Calgary he was a sheltered 2nd pairing guy defensive issues and with Regehr taking the tough matchups. And a mediocre ES point producer. But that got kinda ignored when there was big hitz! and 60 pointz!

When PPs dropped again league-wide and teams figured out how to cover him ... suddenly there was a lot more focus on his lacking defensive play. And when Toronto actually tried using him in shutdown minutes ... yuck.

His ES scoring and defensive play have been remarkably consistent through his career through 2018.

Bold prediction time: Yzerman will be a failure in Detroit and they will be like the Edmonton Oilers of the Eastern Conference. Convenient for him to run away from the scene of the crime after his house of cards collapsed in Tampa. I don’t want to use the word fraud but he does not deserve half of the credit that the netizens of hockey give him.
