Another possible suitor or sadist for Darling. Arizona might be in need of a goalie if Raanta is out the whole season. They definitely have the cap space but who knows .

One minute you're speculated to Offer Sheet hometown boy Auston Matthews onto max contract to revive the franchise, the other minute...

Experience Coyotes Hockey.

Must not be a hockey town.
Denver is the worst. If it isn’t the Broncos it’s crap. Avs have been at least entertaining for over a year and the crowds are still meh. They’ll be here for the playoffs, and if they do well there maybe next year. I’ve always said Denver is no better than Raleigh, we just had early success.

To be fair it’s filled in as the game went on. Still not as much as you’d think.

An Oblate Spheroid
Hitchcock is doing the impossible it looks like. Oil lead 5-1. Likely to improve to 8-2-1 under Hitchcock, with basically McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH and a bunch of scrubs. Koskinen running away with the starting job for now. Zykov still getting very little minutes. Would not be surprised to him back on waivers soon especially with Hitchcock as their coach.

As a specific single player note, Hitchcock trusting Jesse Puljujarvi to be on the ice for the last minute of [the previous] game seems to be made a big thing by the commentators. Looks like he's bent to dig up the Laine, Aho type of guy out of him. Working on his PK to make him a "top class third liner" for starters and see it from there.

The "buy low" window for JP may be closing.

There was a sound byte of Hitchcock out yesterday where he was really pumping poolparty’s tires saying he’s noticed great detail in his game and has been working hard to make him a pk’er which will bring his minutes up. Watching the game it was clear the player is buying in, which is great.

He is as gangly and awkward looking as the day is long. He may be a top six guy with the work ethic and size but I don’t see a first liner in there. Struggling to see a scoring second liner but who knows, he still has time.

He’s obviously good friends with Rantanen. They were both on the ice late in warmups and looked across the ice at each other for a nod, and Rantanen lofted a puck towards him that he deflected in his net, then they both separately left the ice without saying anything. Game faces. It was a cute bruh moment.

Sam Girard is Krug at his best with a pulp fiction style adrenaline shot to the chest applied with a stabbing downward motion. If that guy can find a way to put more oomph in his shot he’s an all star. Defining the smaller dman role of unlimited escapability in the face of high tempo forechecking and starting or leading the play out of the zone. Picks good times to pinch and is very deceptive and poised with the puck. Great one timer release even, just not quite enough on it to beat guys yet. Really fun to watch.

Mcdavid is just playing a different game. He’s so explosive his moves aren’t complicated he just makes you choose a direction and goes the other way once you choose. They need another big talent to play with him. Drai looks like he is regressing and is becoming the guy he’s accused to be on the main boards sometimes, completely dependent on Mcdavid. I’ve seen enough highlights to believe otherwise but last night the second he got the puck his eyes went straight for Mcdavid no matter where he was. He deferred to him constantly. They all do except maybe Nuge, who’s got a nasty release to his snap shot.

Fun game to watch. 29 and 96 are amazing in person too. 29 plays so fast it’s hard to believe his hands keep up with his feet, but they do. 96 is on fire. Every pass on target, every shot at a good place on net, sees the play ahead of everyone. He’s about to get paid. That pick turned out amazing.

I don't know, considering the situation it's almost a harsh jab at Hitchcock's predecessor to praise the coach JP had at 13, 14, 15 who thought him all little things. Kind on underlines that JP's coach at 18, 19 wasn't all that great.

Well it’s hard to say who’s fault it was that this guy has floundered. It’s partially expectations, his predecessor would’ve been publicly flogged for trying to raise the kid as a pk’er with his draft pedigree and the success of the others drafted around him.

It’s easy for Hitch to come in work the reclamation angle as a guy who didn’t really have a dog in the fight bringing “new eyes” to the situation. It’s savvy of Hitch, when any scorer doesn’t score you teach him to check. It’s not a new concept but he’s going to get a lot of praise for it if JP finds a new role and excels.

For the record, at 17 Joel Armia was continuously the soft-handed poster boy in our provincial paper following Ässät closely, and perpetual in the scoring highlights.

He went a long road and reinvented himself as a bottom six penalty killer. He was going hot in Jets (but got waylaid by the injury and eventually traded to Montreal as a sweetener to Steve Mason's 2x4M contract).

Pulju robbing the puck from behing from Ovechkin in an early game was somewhat reminiscent of that one fun solo penalty kill by Armia.
