Ovechkin had a horrible giveaway in the offensive zone and Leafs scored. And the first goal was even bigger gift. Typical day in Washington I guess.

Wow Rinaldo just absolutely dropped Crombeen. One of the hardest punches in years right to the kisser.

Yeah, I've always thought that it would make more sense, at least for the playoffs, to use players' regular season results to determine qualcomp.

At this point you're better off looking at the players that a player has played the most against so far. For Kadri, it's (for forwards):

Grigorenko's line in Buffalo.
Hodgson/Vanek's line.
Peverley/Kelley in Boston.
Chimera/Ward in Washington.

For defencemen, he's mostly gotten soft minutes (guys like Ehrhoff, Brennan, Sekera, Ference, etc.) except when the Leafs played the Rangers and he mostly lined up against Ryan McDonagh.

Kind of ironic, then, that the guys at BTN who crunch stats - which should always be taken over as large a sample as possible - would overlook this point. I can't imagine that the context of the playoffs would alter a player's performance that much to have to separate their underlying numbers.

Watching the Buffalo game this afternoon...terribad defense.

It's funny.
After Buffalo signed Ehrhoff and acquired Regehr, people on HF were saying that Buffalo had a top 5 defense in the league. Sure doesn't look like it.

Ehrhoff and Regehr are actually the bright spots. Leopold and Myers on the other hand...

A lot of it's also because of their system and the personnel they have on forwards. People complain how much the Canucks defense sucks too when the team is out of sync, gaps are too long and unit is too spread. It's the defensemen who usually end up looking like crap when that happens.

Of the two, I would say FA.

I know Manny's stock has fallen here, but a faceoff man that wins in his percentage range can be an awfully valuable commodity during the playoffs.

Depends on what we can get for him; if we can get a decent pick, then I would trade him.

I doubt MG would ask him to waive it too. Not worth burning a bridge for what would be at most a mid-round pick when his contract's up in a few months anyway. Still would like him to be a faceoff coach with us too, so there's that.

Yep, there's no reason to trade him unless we're being offered an overpayment (such as a 2nd round pick) and we can acquire someone for a cheaper price to replace him.

it'd be bad juju to move malholtra at this point, we just need to grin and bear it until the season is over and hope he doesn't cost us any games (which he's yet to do i think, so i guess he's not a complete detriment)

I would love to keep Malhotra next season if it was for the right price (850k), but I have a feeling that another team needing a faceoff specialist + 4th line center will overpay for him.

His probable departure next season will make room for Pinizzotto to finally get his chance (which he deserves).
