This is why a lot of people don’t trust the analytics community. Anyone watching the games with their eyeballs knows Dougie is struggling and somehow he belongs in the Norris conversation?

To be clear, Dougie is not in the Norris conversation per that article. He is however in the list of "Expected contenders currently outside the picture".

He shouldn't belong in the Norris conversation regardless. Neither should Faulk for that matter. I miss when defensive play actually played a part in the Norris conversation, instead of it just being "Hey, look at how many points this defenseman has put up!'

Faulk's play to this point in the year has been great and he clearly deserves to be on that list if you factor in defensive contribution.

Well, Faulk definitely isn't in there for points (8 in 19GP)...I think he has the league-leading mythical +/- though
His GSVA is inflated because of his 8 points, 5 are goals which ties him 4th in that regard. Also add in STL is much better than Vancouver which keeps his defensive numbers up.

Ok that makes it more palatable. The way it was presented on here was that he’s just in the outside looking in. Don’s player valuation models do some whacky shit sometimes though.

I honestly thought that play in the Habs game was a sure fire goal. I switched the channel to the Caps and Hawks games to watch their OTs thinking I was going to be deprived in that game. I think it should have been a goal. I think there was time to reset and the Sens stood around complaining before the play was even over it seemed. Oh well.

I was surprised Clode got fired. Bergevin still seems like the one that should go. Many got hyped by some guys playing over their heads in the soft division early (I think I fell for it for a bit), but their roster construction is still suspect.

As for Rod, I remain not worried. We are working with him and I feel supremely confident it will get done.

No. Rod has been in NC for far too long and his family and roots are here now. If he's not coaching the Hurricanes then he's not coaching anywhere else and he's pretty much said as much.
I didnt say he was going to Seattle but it is plausible. Rod is straight shooter but even straight shooters know what is best to say in the media.

I believe he stays. If we were to entertain possible openings and probable openings at seasons' end, Seattle would be on it. Montreal, i would say no. Buffalo, no even though they have K Adams. Then it really depends who opens up after that.

I genuinely hope Brind'Amour milks Dundon for every dime he can get. I think everyone involved knows Brind'Amour is here until he's had enough, and it's just a matter of working out the numbers. Dundon even seemed to acknowledge Brind'Amour's status in the organization in his recent podcast interview. Dundon also deeply understands leverage, and wasn't shy about taking that train to the last stop on the line with Waddell, so it's not out of the question it happens with Rod as well. but deep down, I doubt it gets to that point.

Which is amongst the lowest in the league, and wasnt it said Rod didnt really care at that time about it?

He's in demand now, whether he has any intention of leaving or not he has significantly upped his value.
Sure, I'm just saying, he'll obviously give contracts even if he doesn't want to. He didn't strong arm Brindy into no contract like he tried with Waddell. Hopefully he learned that lesson and I'm sure he'll give Brindy a significantly better deal regardless. I'm not worried about it in the slightest.

Oh I know he's going to give a contract. Just felt like a good time to get a laugh about how he approached Waddell.

Yeah, completely fair. I don't begrudge Dundon trying to change things up on that front, but luckily he was smart enough to cave. I hope he's smart enough not to do it again.

You'd think. He has been very clear that he doesnt think anyone but the players are worth a lot of money, and that everyone is replaceable. That somewhere out there is someone who's hungry and ready for their chance and will do it for cheaper.

Time to shut up about all that and pay Rod a fair wage.

He said anyone not contributing directly to the on-ice product. I think he knows Rod’s value.

Sure, he might go to Seattle because of his relationship with Francis or them throwing a ton of money and resources at him but the 'grew up in BC thing and being close to Seattle' I don't believe is much of a reason here. He was born in Ottawa, grew up in Prince Rupert (which is basically at the border of Alaska) and in Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Moved to saskatchewan when he was 15-16 years old to play in the under 18 league. That's not to say he doesn't have history and ties to the Pacific Northwest of Canada but I highly doubt that he's eager to pack up his family and move literally as far away from NC as possible. He's got a fairly young kid with his current wife right? And his wife is the daughter of Eddie Biedenbach who was the UNC basketball coach for like 20 years? All I'm saying is he's probably got more family ties to the NC area than in BC where it doesn't seem like he's been since he was a kid and doesn't seem like he really goes back to in the offseason or anything.

I mean Vancouver and Seattle are the same place, if you miss Vancouver you can move to Seattle and that will make sense.

Very true. And Prince Rupert aka Alaska, is basically Vancouver, which as you mentioned is basically Seattle... but wait Alaska is basically Russia so maybe Rod will go coach in the KHL?!?!?!

Eddie played for ncsu and coached UNC-Asheville not UNC.
