This might be fake news but I've read multiple sources claiming that cold weather is more conducive to spreading COVID-19, much like the winter flu. So, indoor arena + cold environment might be a bad idea for fans.

Yes, there was a CDC report about a beer league game in Tampa becoming a high spread event that stated that the virus could survive longer on surfaces due to cold environment. Having fans prior to widespread vaccine use would be a really, really bad idea.

Don't see Carolina signing any of them, but still quite a few guys still left unsigned. I suspect some teams are waiting until their RFAs are under contract before making other moves?

Granlund
Hoffman
Vatanen
Abdelkater
Frolik
Hamonic
Grabner
Sheary
Athanasiou
Erik "Haula-famer"
Duclair
Ben Hutton
Caggiula
Brassard
B. Richie
Boyle
Perlini

Among others.

Seems like a good way to make Bobrovsky look good by comparison.
Yeah, Florida will be petitioning the league to amend the CBA so they can actually extend Bobrovsky's contract and pay him even more for a .900 save % after they see Darling for a game or two.

I quite literally had more confidence in Ayers in net for half a game than I ever had in Darling after seeing him for a few games in a Canes sweater.

You know what? Best of luck to Darling and I hope he carves out a decent niche somewhere. It didn't work here and it is what it is, but I wish him the best (not against us obviously).
If he impresses enough, he might be coming to a town near you as the new Checkers starter or backup.

At least half that list is too good to not be playing. Teams will do some rearranging at some point to get them in. We’re clearly at a stalemate with all that which makes sense since no one knows what the season is going to look like or if it’ll happen. No sense spending money on any of these guys without knowing that first. Once the plan starts moving forward and we start getting close you’d think there’d be another round of movement across the league as people try to get these guys.

I could see us being one of those teams. We needed another top six forward going into this off season, Fast just replaces Williams. There’s a couple of guys on that list that might be worth giving a shot to.

Yea, combination of flat cap, a few teams still needing to make moves to cut cap or sign RFAs (offer sheets or players shaking loose at cheap prices), uncertainty of NHL start date (or IF there will be a season), and availability of overseas jobs/$$ (could see some going KHL for more money than NHL teams are likely offering right now, like Hoffman)

Kasperi Kapanen won't join his old Liiga team KalPa in the interim of waiting NHL to start. He would have wanted to, but the insurance that NHL demands would've been too expensive for Kalpa.

Meanwhile, Tappara aggravated an amount of fans. The rumors that Barkov would join the team have been rampant. So, when Tappara made a cryptic announcement that they have news to report at midnight in Tuesday night, people were staying awake to wait that Barkov or maybe Laine has joined the team... and what they got was an announcement that Tappara has started "Our Team" initiative where the beef is that you can sign up to join the team by giving Tappara 20 Euros and receiving a digital player card with your own picture, because times are hard and we are like a family that you can now join, with the 20 Euros.

Not everyone appreciated the ruse.

Yeah, I think it was Friedman that mentioned the lost revenue from building naming rights and boards and such would possibly push them to all games in home buildings.

I still think they should do something akin to baseball series (and it sounds like they are considering that) in home arenas.

Washington, DC.
More so than naming rights, the NHL apparently went over budget on food and hotel expenses in the bubble, and the cost of the bubble experience in general was pretty significant. Players being able to sleep at home and make most of their own meals saves a lot of money. I guess you have to weigh that against the cost of charter flights, and those definitely add up and are a pretty fixed cost, but there have also been proposals to mitigate that by playing a lot of mini series, with lots of back to backs in the same arena.

I bet the hotels bled the teams dry with their food bills. Hotel food is already ridiculously overpriced as it is.
