Duclair definitely has limitations but he’s a secondary scorer who can help this team if we’re not in on the bigger names

bowey is the only one i’d kind of be interested in, even if it’s just as mueller’s replacement as our 7th D.

Eh, I’m not sure if one good half year on his forth team means the corner was successfully turned, he scored 21 goals in the first three months and 2 the rest of the year. He was always a problematic stop gap for a offense starved rebuild.

Unfortunately he tried to negotiate the deal himself so he didn’t have a neutral party to help guide him and let him know when those scum sucking cheapskates were actually making a him a fair offer in plague dollars. It sounds like a shit show but there are a enough minor UFAs on the market that Ottawa should be able to replace him with somebody who might be less entertaining but may occasionally recognize their defensive responsibilities. And, please, no, not Duclair on the Devils. He needs a ridiculous amount of top six time for his even less impressive than it looks production.

Looking at the RFAs released by Chicago I had a vision of who could potentially turn up our third goalie. It wasn’t a great vision.

Unfortunately we are in a rebuild and not a particularly attractive UFA destination so I’m bracing myself for some of these less than stellar options

Lost in all the draft/trade/free agency talk I must say kudos to Calgary and Ottawa on finally getting their jerseys right.

Hinostroza (even though he's another midget)
Cousins
Wallmark
Kahun
Koekkoek
Athanasiou
Duclair
Stetcher

Are guys that interest me from that list
Solid list. Probably similar for me except I would only offer Duclair a PTO. He has flamed out so many team so I would be wary of offering him a long term deal.

Athanasiou and Stecher would be the top 2 I would want. Stecher is underrated. Very solid defensively despite his size and would be a good partner for Smith or Butcher on the bottom pairing.

If Athanasiou is signed, we might be able to ice the fast 4th line in the league - Wood-McLeod-Athanasiou.

Maybe add Malcolm Subban as a PTO. We need a 3rd goalie. Fitzgerald comments today about Cory suggests that he isn't looking for a new backup goalie. Cory is still in the team's plans.

IMO there aren't really any UFAs that are realistically going to sign here. Maybe a depth/AHL guy here or there.
Why not? Guys need jobs and we have successfully signed full fledged NHL UFAs even when other teams weren’t cutting back. We aren’t likely signing Hoffman (sorry, it’s true) but the team said they are adding players. If players are open to shorter deals than who knows who we can grab. Cheer up buckaroo.
Krug, Hoffman and a goaltender. I’m happy.
No sure the first two are happening but dream big I guess.

Wow Columbus just put Wennberg on waivers for purposes of a buyout. I'm surprised they couldn't trade him. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him.

I can understand, they gave Wennberg a six year deal after he showed constant improvement during his ELC and his offense then evaporated. Specifically his goal scoring, he never shot the puck particularly much but he started shooting it less and his shooting % dropped. The real issue was in 2018-19, the 2nd year of his deal, he shot 0% at 5v5 in 66 games, which is equally incredible and terrible. (He had 1 PP goal and 1 SH goal.) Last season he pulled it up 7.41% at 5v5 for 4 goals in 57 games.

I don’t know if Wennburg particularly excels defensively or is just defensively responsible by virtue of being on Tort’s team. He has a goal scoring issue, he’s not physical despite his size and he’s not 50%+ at face-offs so I’m not coveting him. That said, he can play wing or center on any line and that would make him very useful to have. He’s a pass first center though, something of an alternative universe Zacha with better defense. Domi definitely made him useless at 4.9m.

What happened to Gaunce?

I really liked Derrick Pouliot when I saw him with the Winterhawks. Captain material type guy - don't know if he just doesn't have the footspeed, or?
